Experience What Its Like to Fly...Learn About Aviation and What Pilots Need to Know to Fly An Airplane; Experimental Aircraft Association's (EAA) Young Eagles Program Hosts Flight Rally

Orange County chapter of the Experimental Aircraft Association's (EAA) Young Eagles Program to host flight rally at Chino Airport sponsored by Yanks Museum for ages 8-17. Sit co-pilot and learn what it takes to be a pilot.

2014-04-23
SANTA ANA, CA, April 23, 2014 (Press-News.org) Orange County kids and teens, ages 8-17 will have a chance to take to the skies on Saturday, April 26th 2010, when Orange County's EAA Chapter 92 hosts a Young Eagles Flight Rally. The rally is part of the EAA's Young Eagles program, created to expose kids and teens to the world of aviation. Since the Young Eagles program was launched in 1992, Volunteer EAA pilots have flown more than 1.8 million children.

"Free airplane rides are just part of the experience," states Robert Baker, spokesman for the event. "We hope to build one-to-one relationships between pilots and children, giving a new generation a chance to learn more about the possibilities that exist in the world of aviation."

The flight rally begins with check-in at 10:00 AM. Each youngster [with registration forms signed by a parent or guardian] will receive a name badge, a logbook, a check-list and a lunch ticket. The event is sponsored by Yank's Air Museum and will be open for all Young Eagles participants to tour as part of the program. At 11 AM the youngsters will be briefed in the museum during the "Welcome Orientation", followed by EAA 92's "Young Eagle Ground School". Ground School is a fun packed experience that includes: learning how airplanes fly [by making a FPG-9 foam glider]; learning about airplane instrument panels and aerial navigation; learning scoring and careers and finally a walk through of a pre-flight ground inspection of a real airplane. Young Eagles are then ready for their flights.

During loading, pilots will explain more about their airplanes and especially how pilots ensure that safety is always first. After their adventure is over, each Young Eagle, will receive a certificate, making them an official Young Eagle, an entry in their log book, made by their pilot, to document their experience, a balsa airplane, a "Learn to Fly" book provided by Gleim Publishing and a secret code for an on-line flight training program, provided by Sporty's Pilot shop. Although the airplane rides are donated by the chapter's pilots, without any compensation, a $20.00 donation is highly recommended to help off set the chapter's costs of materials, lunch and refreshments with any balance deposited into EAA 92's scholarship fund.

Pre-registration for this rally [and others] can be found at http://eaa92.org . Due to heavy TAS security issues at Chapter 92's primary airport [John Wayne], Chapter 92 hosts its Orange County Young Eagle flights at the Chino Airport; an easy drive up the 55 to the 91 east to the 72 north. Families will find the welcoming doors of the beautiful Yanks Air Museum http://www.yanksair.com. Where they can check in at 10 AM on April 26th. A map to this location can be found on EAA92's website [http://eaa92.org]. Please pre-register at http://eaa92.org so the chapter can properly procure adequate supplies and schedule its pilots.

The Young Eagles program is a non-profit organization and was created by the US Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA). It is designed to give children between the ages of 8 to 17 an opportunity to experience flight in a general aviation airplane while educating children about aviation. This program is offered free of charge with donations and volunteers. The program was launched in 1992 and, by fall of 2009, has flown more than 1.5 million children in 90 countries.
