LateRooms.com - Enjoy Great Yarmouth Festival of Bowls in Norfolk

The 65th Great Yarmouth Festival of Bowls gets underway at the end of the month.

2010-08-18
NORFOLK, ENGLAND, August 18, 2010 (Press-News.org) The Great Yarmouth Festival of Bowls - the biggest outdoor sporting event of its kind in the UK - is coming to Norfolk at the end of the month.

Throughout four weeks of play, which get underway on August 29th, entrants will compete for a range of honours, including titles for men's and women's singles, pairs and triples.

Greater Yarmouth's official tourism website has revealed that more than 1,800 people will be battling it out at the Britannia Bowling Greens, while the event is expected to be equally popular with spectators.

Benches and other seating have been installed around the arena to allow tourists staying at Norfolk hotels to relax while they watch the action unfold.

Although the tournament is now in its 65th year, the organisers have attempted to keep it fresh by introducing new competitions.

In 2007, the over 60s open pairs and over 60s open singles events were both added to the programme, taking the festival to its current length of four weeks.

Tickets are priced at GBP4 per person for each competition and the tourism board has promised that anyone is welcome to come along and watch.

Matches take place daily between 09:00 and 17:00 BST until the festival comes to an end on September 24th.

For more information on this event, visit the Great Yarmouth tourism website or call 01493 846343.
