LateRooms.com - Milan Showcases Francesca Woodman Photography Exhibition

The Pallazzo della Ragione is showing an exhibition of photographer Francesca Woodman's work.

2010-08-12
MILAN, ITALY, August 12, 2010 (Press-News.org) An exhibition of photographs by deceased artist Francesca Woodman is available to view in Milan, with several of the images being shown exclusively at the venue.

Running until October 24th 2010, this stunning collection of photos shows what a huge talent she was, before she took her own life at the age of 22 by throwing herself out of a Manhattan flat in 1981.

She is almost always the subject of her pictures, with the organisers of the exhibition highlighting how this trend has continued with many modern artists.

There are 116 images on display at the Pallazzo della Ragione - which can be easily reached from most of the luxury hotels Milan has to offer - and they take the visitor on a journey through Woodman's nine-year career.

One highlight of the exhibition is the installation of Swan Song, which is selection of five large photos that are arranged at different heights according to their tone. This show has never been recreated in Italy before.

Commenting on the occasion, Rachel Spence wrote in the Financial Times that Woodman rarely took a "dud" photo.

"Woodman announces herself as a conceptualist; a self-conscious image-maker in the tradition of Duchamp, Warhol and Joseph Kosuth, whose 1965 installation 'One and Three Chairs' showed a real chair framed by a photograph of itself and a written description," remarked the author.

Entrance costs EUR8 (GBP6.70) and opening hours are from Tuesday to Sunday 09:30 to 19:30 local time - except Thursday when the art space stays open until 22:30 - and Monday from 14:30 until 19:30.

For more information on this event visit the Mostra Woodman website or contact the venue on +39 02 4335 3522.
