(Press-News.org) Professor Yoon-Kyoung Cho from the Department of Biomedical Engineering at UNIST has been elected as a member of the National Academy of Engineering of Korea (NAEK), the most prestigious organization in the field of engineering in Korea.

On January 4, the National Academy of Engineering of Korea (NAEK) announced the election of 50 new members, comprising 25 academic and 25 industrial figures, in recognition of their distinguished and ongoing achievements in original research. Membership in NAEK is considered one of the highest professional distinctions for engineers. Professor Cho’s name appeared on the list alongside Professor Sung Hyun Kwon of Seoul National University and President Duckhyun Chang of Samsung Electro-Mechanics.

NAEK members are experts who have contributed to national development through outstanding research achievements and innovative technology development at universities, research institutes, and companies. The selection process involves recommendations and rigorous screening among existing members who have served as members of NAEK, and the total number of members is limited to 300 or fewer.

Professor Cho was elected as a member in the biomedical field, recognizing her exceptional research influence in the area of lab-on-a-chip-based diagnostics. Based on its outstanding performance and significant impact on the public, Professor Cho’s research on lab-on-a-chip has been selected three times for the prestigious National Top 100 R&D Performance by the Ministry of Science and ICT (MSIT) in the past five years.

Expressing her gratitude, Professor Cho stated, “I am delighted to be recognized by my colleagues and senior researchers.” She further added, “We will expand our lab-on-a-chip research by incorporating artificial intelligence and robotics in the next 24 months.”
