Wonhwa Cho to receive Biophysical Society’s 2026 Award in the Biophysics of Health and Disease

(Press-News.org) BETHESDA, MD – The Biophysical Society is pleased to announce that Wonhwa Cho, of the University of Illinois Chicago, USA, has been named the recipient of the 2026 BPS Award in the Biophysics of Health and Disease. Cho will be honored at the Society’s 70th Annual Meeting, being held in San Francisco, California from February 21-25, 2026.

Cho will be recognized for mechanistic elucidation of lipid-protein interactions foundational to lipid-targeted drug discovery.

“Wonhwa has pioneered new and innovative experimental approaches to overcome obstacles and make breakthrough discoveries that have revolutionized lipid research and laid the foundation for new translational research on lipid-targeting drug discovery,” said BPS President Lynmarie Thompson of the University of Massachusetts Amherst. His high-impact work will continue to support and resonate with the best of future cell biology.”

About the Award – The Biophysics of Health and Disease Award, established by the Biophysical Society, honors significant contribution to understanding the fundamental cause or pathogenesis of disease, or to enabling the treatment or prevention.
