Does Liposuction Leave Extensive Scarring?

Like any surgical procedure, liposuction will leave some scars. The extent of your scarring will depend largely on the skill of your plastic surgeon and the area you have had liposuction performed on.

2012-08-01
SCOTTSDALE, AZ, August 01, 2012 (Press-News.org) Like any surgical procedure, liposuction will leave some scars. The extent of your scarring will depend largely on the skill of your plastic surgeon and the area you have had liposuction performed on.

Liposuction is performed with a cannula, a small surgical instrument that is inserted through the skin to remove excess deposits of fat. Cannulas are about a quarter of an inch in size, but the incisions for liposuction are frequently as small at one eighth of an inch. Working with an experienced plastic surgeon, these incisions will be intentionally hidden in the natural folds of your body. Due to this placement, it is unlikely that the scars from your procedure will be noticeable to anyone after you have recovered.

Scarring is Inevitable

Scarring is inevitable with any surgical procedure. Fortunately, scars from liposuction are incredibly small and tend to fade naturally over time. Make sure you are working with a board-certified plastic surgeon. This will help ensure a quality procedure performed under the safest conditions, and help produce a much more aesthetically pleasing end result. Additionally, a board-certified plastic surgeon will be able to advise you of ways to tend to your incisions and help reduce puckering or visible scarring.

Tending to Your Skin

Liposuction may result in two types of scars: scar tissue and hyperpigmentation. Hyperpigmentation can result from an incision or any other skin abnormality including acne, and can often be reduced in appearance with topical ointments.

Your plastic surgeon will discuss how to avoid excessive scar tissue by keeping your incisions clean. He may suggest homeopathic or at-home remedies that can be used to reduce bruising and hyperpigmentation. Take special care to follow all of your plastic surgeon's advice. The steps you take following your liposuction will impact both the appearance of scars and your final body contouring results.

If you have questions about the aesthetic results of liposuction in Scottsdale, Phoenix, Gilbert, Chandler, Glendale, or surrounding areas of Arizona, please visit the website of board-certified plastic surgeon Bryan W. Gawley, MD, Plastic Surgery for additional information at www.gawleyplasticsurgery.com.

Foods and Drinks That Stain Your Teeth

2012-08-01
There is some truth in the old adage "you are what you eat," and the evidence can be especially noticeable on your teeth. In fact, stained or otherwise discolored teeth is one of the most common cosmetic dental problems. The porous nature of tooth enamel makes teeth vulnerable to staining, and people who regularly consume dark-colored foods and beverages are especially susceptible to premature tooth discoloration.
