As one of seven serological types of the bacteria Clostridium botulinum, BOTOX Cosmetic works by temporarily inhibiting nerve signals that cause muscle tension in what is medically known as selective muscle denervation.

Selective Muscle Denervation

The point where your facial muscles and nerves meet is called the neuromuscular junction. When the signal to contract is received by on the nerve side of this junction, it releases a chemical called acetylcholine, which binds to the muscle side causing the chemical reaction resulting in contraction.
