RALEIGH, NC, September 08, 2012 (Press-News.org) The Ray Price Capital City Bikefest presented by Nationwide Insurance returns to downtown Raleigh in two weeks, with fun for the entire family. This year's event is expected to be bigger than ever, boosting the local economy and benefiting North Carolina's military. Organized by Ray Price Harley-Davidson, the event will take place over three days starting Friday, September 21st and continuing through Sunday, September 23rd.
"We're excited about being able to continue our partnership with the city of Raleigh and host the Bikefest for the eighth year," said Ray Price. "We want people to come out and have a good time while we raise money to support military servicemen and women in North Carolina."
Centered on the iconic Harley-Davidson brand, the destination event will feature live music and entertainment, food, vendors, special shows and exhibits, and thousands of motorcycles. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the North Carolina National Guard as well as The United Service Organizations (USO) of N.C. Last year's event attracted 65,000 people to downtown Raleigh. This year, the festival is estimated to bring 80,000 -100,000 people.
The event will take place in downtown Raleigh on Fayetteville Street, with activities on Hargett, Martin, and Davie Streets and the Plaza. Events will also take place at the Ray Price, Inc. dealership located at 1126 South Saunders Street in Raleigh.
New events this year include a sparkling Parade of Lights ride just after opening ceremonies on Friday. Parade registration and lineup starts at 7 p.m. on Davie Street. The parade will leave at 8:30 p.m. and wind through the city to end on Fayetteville Street. Prizes will be awarded for unique light arrangements and patterns.
"Motorcycles of all kinds, with colorful accessory lighting, are invited to join us," said Kris Weiss, Director of Marketing and Promotions. "We expect this to be a head-turning, eye-catching event; a unique, one-of-a-kind ride with motorcycles illuminated with LED lights."
The Bikefest will also feature the first-ever "Metric Alley." Visitors will experience exciting elements featuring metric street bikes, dirt bikes, ATVs and side by sides. 1 Wheel Revolution will perform stunt shows on West Hargett Street throughout the weekend, while iWheelie.com lets you perform your own stunts on the wheelie simulator machine. Circus Una will deliver breathtaking entertainment with a thrilling, high-wire motorcycle act on West Davie Street. Two stages feature local bands and performance groups throughout the day. There will also be plenty of vendors, prizes, and opportunities to purchase Harley-Davidson gear.
"Our main goal is coming together for a good cause," said Ray Price. "It's about enjoying and sharing the motorcycle lifestyle, and showcasing the local businesses in Raleigh."
