Liposuction Candidacy

If you are unhappy with unsightly fat bulges, you might be considering liposuction to remove these bulges.

2012-09-27
TAMPA, FL, September 27, 2012 (Press-News.org) If you are unhappy with unsightly fat bulges, you might be considering liposuction to remove these bulges. However, before you run out to get the procedure, it's important to consider whether you are a candidate for liposuction. Although most people who want it can benefit from the procedure, not everyone is eligible.

Three Degrees of Liposuction Candidacy

If you are considering liposuction, it's important to remember that there are three classes of liposuction candidates: people who are not candidates, people who are candidates but have special concerns, and people who are the ideal candidates for the procedure.

Who Is Not a Candidate for Liposuction

There are some things that will definitely disqualify you from being a candidate for liposuction. These include:
- High risk of cardiovascular complications or previous cardiovascular adverse events
- Current infection
- Taking medications that can interact with anesthesia or other medications used during surgery
- Not cleared for surgery by your general practitioner

If any of these describe you, then you are not considered a candidate for liposuction.

Candidate with Risks

If you do not meet any of the above qualifications, then you may be a candidate for liposuction. However, the following factors may increase your risk of complications:
- Overweight: Liposuction is not a weight loss procedure, and patients who are not at or near their ideal weight are at a greatly increased risk for complications.
- Smoking: Smoking constricts blood vessels in the skin and nearby tissues, which can reduce your body's ability to heal after liposuction. Being a smoker increases your risk for tissue death (necrosis) in the treated area (in addition to potentially fatal cardiovascular events). You will be asked to quit smoking for at least eight weeks around the time of your surgery. If you cannot quit smoking for that time, you may not be a liposuction candidate.

During your consultation with your plastic surgeon, you will learn about the above issues and how they can affect your risk of complications and the likely quality of your results.

Ideal Liposuction Candidate

The ideal liposuction candidate is one who does not have any factors that prohibit their candidacy and also:

- Eat a balanced diet rich in fruits and vegetables--this can reduce your risk of complications
- Have good skin quality--if your skin does not contract after liposuction, you may not be happy with the results. If you have healthy, elastic skin you are more likely to get the results you desire.
- Understand the procedure--your psychology will definitely impact the quality of your results. If you understand the procedure and have reasonable expectations for your results, you are more likely to be happy with the results you achieve.

The ideal liposuction candidate is most likely to get the results they desire and have the smallest risk of complications.

Birth Control and Blood Clots: the Dangers of Yaz, Yasmin, Beyaz and Ocella

2012-09-27
In 2011, Yasmin was the 4th most-prescribed oral contraceptive in the United States and brought in $1.1 billion in sales for Bayer. The wonder drug was marketed as a low-dose birth control pill (it contains less than .035 milligrams of estrogen) that could reduce the symptoms of PMDD (premenstrual dysphoric disorder) and moderate cases of acne. By July 2012, Bayer Pharmaceuticals had spent over $400 million to settle claims that its 'wonder drug' Yasmin-line of birth control is actually a very dangerous drug. That amounts to 1,900 cases of serious or deadly side effects, ...

More Drugged Driving Arrests in Ohio Highlight Need for Strong Defense

2012-09-27
Pretty much everyone knows about the 0.08 blood alcohol limit for driving in Ohio. But, alcohol intoxication is not the only form of impairment that concerns Ohio law enforcement officers. Drugged driving charges are becoming increasingly common in the Buckeye State. What's more, unlike in drunk driving cases, there is usually not a measurable legal intoxication level for drugged driving, meaning that driving after taking even a small amount of a drug can land you in serious trouble. Upward Trend in Drug Arrests by Ohio Highway Patrol May Be Due To Upped Enforcement For ...

Child Custody: Shared or Customized?

2012-09-27
A Case-By-Case Determination Many individuals believe that subsequent to a divorce, children should split time equally between parents. At first, it may appear fair for parents to share guardianship of their children. However, when making a child custody decision, family law courts generally review matters on a case-by-case basis. Specifically, courts look to the "best interests" of children when making custody determinations. However, this does not mean that in all cases equal parenting is in the best interests of a particular child. What is in the best ...

Are Courts Pulling Back the Right to Counsel in Wisconsin?

2012-09-27
If you've ever watched a police procedural show on television, or if you've had a personal encounter with law enforcement, you're probably somewhat familiar with the Miranda Warning. The Miranda Warning is a listing of rights afforded to the accused, and police must deliver it before diving into any line of questioning once a suspect is in custody. One of the most important rights mentioned in the Miranda Warning is the right to an attorney. But, a series of recent court opinions seem to indicate that this important procedural safeguard may be eroding for those arrested ...

No Signs of Trouble? Warrantless Searches By Police Unlawful in New Jersey

2012-09-27
Police make quick decisions during potentially dangerous situations every day. Officers must be wary of their surroundings when responding to emergency or community care-taking calls, for example when called regarding missing persons or the possibility of domestic violence, in addition to other possible illegal activity. These scenarios often demand warrantless searches, even when there are no apparent signs of trouble. The New Jersey Supreme Court recently ruled, however, that warrantless searches should be limited to cases where trouble is evident. Police officers ...
