"Why send flowers when you can send cookies?" says founder, Kim Kalan. The business model we have chosen is one of the most successful models available - carry out and delivery of pizza - but we deliver cookies!

We have studied the model, have torn it apart and skinned it with a cool, engaging brand and offered up a business with a cause and a product that is fresh and fun. By choosing this model, we have entered the hyper-disciplined world of delivery and an operational promise that if you order from us, you know you are going to get out of the oven, gooey, made from scratch cookies each and every time. Our business model is simple, efficient, interesting and socially rewarding.

Shipping cookies across the nation is also available via UPS as we have formulated our cookies to have an "out of the oven, gooey in the middle" taste for several days with a secret ingredient that is not a preservative. "These cookies are made from scratch just like your Grandma made them," says co-founder, Jane Rabe. Each ingredient is measured out and mixed with perfection and each batch is baked right before they are delivered or shipped.

There is a larger cause we strive to help with..."One Cookie will offer jobs to women living in poverty where the pay is a livable sustainable wage along with a mentor to give the women we hire endless support to a new way of life," says founder, Kim Kalan. The business plan is to hire women as bakers, customer service reps and delivery drivers.

Chocolate Chip and Oatmeal Raisin are available along with cold milk. The cost of the cookies is $22 per dozen along with a small delivery or shipping charge.

The One Cookie website will include a blog that will follow the story of the women we hire cycling out of poverty along with the day-to-day life of running a small female owned business. A social networking launch is also planned to run side by side with the blog in hopes of turning the stories into an inspirational book.

Kim Kalan, Co-Founder and CEO of One Cookie, is a renaissance woman when it comes to her career. She has bought and sold numerous companies. She has participated in Mensa think tank groups. She has brokered countless international transactions to the tune of millions of dollars over the years. Through all these experiences, there has been one thing that has motivated her all along the way: creating jobs. Her current venture very likely could be the pinnacle of this lifelong agenda.

Kalan's new firm, One Cookie, takes the cookie delivery industry to brand new places. "It's all about jobs," she recently said. "I love creating jobs. Not having a job makes everything harder for absolutely anyone. Once you get that job you can be proud of, a job you are happy to do, everything else in your life improves. It doesn't matter what your age, gender, race or economic situation is currently, a good job just makes everything better, period." Kalan believes she and her partner, Jane Rabe, have come up with a business model that is fun, exciting, creative, and most importantly, can create countless jobs in the long run. The two have named their business One Cookie, because they are out to save the world, "one cookie at a time," Kalan added.

Kalan spent the better part of four months with Rabe coming up with the company's secret recipes. Building the business around their amazing chocolate chip and oatmeal cookies, the two then decided to be just as fun with the packaging. They now deliver cookies around the Twin Cities in designer pizza boxes. The firm can ship the cookies all over the country as well in a customized bag that can be resealed. "As awesome as the cookies and the designer pizza boxes are, the real genius behind this business is that it is a model that is designed to help women who are currently in poverty and living in a shelter to cycle out of the situations they are in with a real job and a real future," Kalan said. She works closely with a local non-profit shelter to handpick the candidates who work at her facility, learn to bake the cookies and manage the deliveries.

Why cookies specifically? After what has included buying and selling electronic component manufacturing companies, brokering international import/export goods and even working with cutting edge agriculture technology, Kalan has decided to turn her favorite personal passion, baking, into her job. "I know I can make money. That's never been a problem for me. At this stage in my career, I want to make money doing the two things I love the most: making delicious food that people will love - in this case cookies - and helping other people improve their lives - in this case by creating jobs." Along with her experience and passion, Kalan attributes her success thus far to her personal business philosophy: "By always having a piercing clarity toward what I am trying to build and letting nothing take my focus off that clarity and I never give up, no matter what. It's just plain, ol' tenacity."

There is no getting around the fact that Jane Rabe, Co-Founder and Marketing and Sales Manager of One Cookie, is an extremely dynamic and passionate individual. To really get to know her, all you have to do is stop and consider the color red. For Rabe, red is a lot more than just the paint on her red car or her favorite shade of lipstick; it's an attitude that she proudly uses as her way of life.

"Red, is a color that is fiery, exciting, passionate, creative, complex and vibrant," she recently explained. "All those sentiments are what I use as guides and goals for my daily life, my personal and professional guideposts." She is psyched about one of her favorite pending holidays: Valentine's Day. Her new cookie business is the perfect match for it as well.

Rabe, originally a native of Des Moines, IA who has resided in and around the Twin Cities since childhood is proving that her "red philosophy" isn't smoke and mirrors. The One Cookie business model is taking the cookie delivery industry to a whole new level. She came up with the idea with co-founder, Kim Kalan because they wanted to do something unique that can make a huge difference in the lives of others. The firm starts with a spectacular cookie recipe for two products: chocolate chip cookies and oatmeal cookies. It took the two more than four months to create their original, secret recipes. They then deliver the cookies locally in traditional looking pizza boxes with fun magazine-like covers. "Who says pizzas should have all the fun with packaging?" Rabe quipped. The firm also can ship their cookies all over the country, but in customized bags with ribbons that can be resealed.

There is more to this business than just amazing cookies. The sweetest bite is the cause behind crumbs. Rabe and Kalan are using the firm as a vehicle to help women who have found themselves in shelters and/or below the poverty line to cycle out of their situations. "Kim and I don't want to just want to make a buck. We both know how to do that and have done it before with other ventures. This is about something more. This is about really helping people," Rabe said. "We work closely with a non-profit and hand pick the best candidates for our business. It's as much a social program as it is a job. Make no mistake, though, it's not a hand out. We are a hard-working "for profit" business."

Rabe's background in product design and retail merchandising has reached distinguished and successful levels prior to this venture proving she can get the job done. She worked for Target in the "buying" office and product design, with one being her work designing the "Plain Jane" doll, that had more than a million dollars in sales in 1988 and was named the "Best Great Gift of the Year." After working in the same field for several firms, she began working in an entrepreneurial capacity, working with "Route 29," a specialized candy company.

The bottom line is you cannot think of either Valentine's Day or Jane Rabe without thinking of the power and beauty of the color red. Her shade of passion will undoubtedly help a new flow of green to lift others up and out of a circle of poverty.
