Recently, a commercial vehicle crash on the Louisiana-Texas border caused the roads to be closed down for a serious amount of time while officials cleaned up the damage. According to 12newsnow.com, the truck was carrying an oversized load and went off to the right side of the road. The cargo and truck together weighed almost 200,000 pounds, and therefore a large crane had to be used for the cleanup process.
The accident is currently under investigation. The driver was injured and taken to the nearby hospital by air.
Commercial vehicle crashes
This crash only involved the commercial vehicle driver himself, but many of these crashes involve another passenger vehicle. With commercial vehicle crashes, the sheer size differences between the commercial vehicles and the cars cause serious problems. People get very hurt, and their property gets severely damaged.

Stay safe on the road

Trucks operate differently than passenger vehicles, and extra caution must be taken when drivers are approaching commercial vehicles. For example, trucks have different blind spots than passenger vehicles. Drivers must remember that if they cannot see the driver's side mirrors, then the truck driver cannot see them. About one third of all crashes occur in a truck's blind spot.
Also, it's important to remember that trucks swing widely when they turn, and that cars need to stay clear of the truck's path when it is turning. It is normally safer to avoid passing a truck on the right when the truck is turning right. Additionally, trucks and buses take a longer time to stop than other vehicles, so never cut off a truck, and it's helpful to remember to be careful when having to stop abruptly. Even when motorists follow these suggestions, commercial drivers do make mistakes and are liable for the damages they cause when driving negligently.
Commercial drivers must take extra safety precautions
Commercial vehicle drivers must make sure that they are well-rested and well-fed when they are driving. Truck drivers have hours-of-service requirements, and they cannot violate these rules. If they do, they and their companies may be legally liable for any injuries caused. Commercial drivers must also make sure to keep their vehicles properly maintained and keep a safe distance between themselves and the car ahead of them.
Commercial vehicle drivers who have acted negligently by poorly maintaining their vehicles or violating hours-of-service requirements should be held responsible for their actions.
