KLAS' First Look into ECG Vendors Finds Integration Lacking

Providers considering other options as market-share leader shows signs of vulnerability

OREM, UT, May 21, 2013 (Press-News.org) A first-time look into ECG technologies shows gaps in vendor solutions around bidirectional interoperability. According to a new KLAS report entitled ECG 2013: Interfacing Is the Heart of the Matter, providers are expressing concerns around bidirectional communication between their resting-ECG carts and their data-management solutions.

The report points out that some customers of GE MUSE, the market leader in ECG data management, are considering other options based on price, value and technology-leadership concerns. Epiphany customers give positive marks on bidirectional communication and service despite mixed reviews on EMR interoperability. Philips, another major player in the ECG market, shows room for improvement with interoperability as well.

"Our first look into the ECG market has been eye opening," said Matt Terry, research director at KLAS and report author. "Meaningful use standards have created a need for integration and interoperability among multiple systems, and this theme is playing out even in the ECG market. According to our research, there remains an opportunity for ECG vendors to better meet their clients' needs, especially around bidirectional communication in a more plug-and-play environment."

Vendors highlighted in this report include Cardiac Science, Cerner, Epiphany Cardio, GE Healthcare, Philips, McKesson, Midmark and Mortara.
