The Tarp is Needed Again in Haiti

The leading U.S. tarp supplier, Tarps Plus, sends large shipments of tarps to Haiti after the region is skirted by hurricane Tomas.

2010-11-10
PALMDALE, CA, November 10, 2010 (Press-News.org) Haiti once again is in hurried preparation as another natural disaster heads its way. Tomas is currently a tropical storm, and everyone watches breathlessly in hopes that it will not gain power to become a hurricane before it strikes land in this already broken and struggling country. As part of the preparation, the tarp is once again in high demand.

For months, families who survived the horrific earthquake of 2010 have been living under shelters constructed of a plethora of tents and tarps. These have provided a home for those who had no other shelter to rely on. Reconstruction efforts have been underway, though the going has been rather slow due to a lack of funds and supplies.

Children have gone back to school, though in many cases, this too has been organized under canvas tarps. Few buildings are left standing after the earthquake, and those that are standing are either badly damaged or already filled with homeless people.

But now another disaster is heading toward Haiti. Officials are encouraging the citizens of this country to find shelter or move somewhere else where family can take them in. People are frightened and many are worried about the homes they have started building. Will they have to start this painstaking process once again?

A spokes person for the tarps company stated, "We know that tarps are crucial when ever a store comes so we had to act fast."

The tarps are badly needed as everyone does their best to prepare quickly. Many are trying to protect the new homes that are being built from the heavy rain and winds that are sure to come soon. Others need a way to patch badly damaged structures so that they an find shelter there until the storm passes.

As rescue workers prepare to go back to this disaster area, they are packing not only tarps, food, clothing, and medical supplies, but as many tents and tarps as they can get their hands on. With so few existing poly tarp shelters already on this struggling island, it is sure that every one they can bring will be needed and used.

Michael Stein is the president of Tarps Plus and is an expert on tarps and the tarp industry.

Latest Mortgage Fraud Crisis May Help Homeowners Keep Their Homes

2010-11-10
The latest chapter of the mortgage crisis may actually help some homeowners facing foreclosure rather than hurt them. Recently, it has come to light that many of the nation's biggest lenders, including Bank of America, JP Morgan Chase and GMAC, have been using questionable documentation to foreclose on homes all across the country. In some cases, the lenders have been instructing employees to sign thousands of foreclosure documents a day without proper witnesses and notaries. These so-called "robo-signers" are signing affidavits that say they have reviewed the loan ...

A Will: Why You Should Have One

2010-11-10
A will provides the heirs of your estate with instruction in how to distribute the assets of your estate; sounds pretty dry and uninteresting. Unfortunately for many, it is only after a person dies that the will, or lack thereof, becomes interesting. By then, it's too late. Most people know they should have a will, but they tend to put it off, especially if they are young. They may have been to very few funerals and not known many people who have died. They think wills and estate planning are for the future and they have plenty of time before they need to consider such ...

Proposal to Reform New York DWI Laws Would Do Harm

2010-11-10
"First, do no harm," counsels the Hippocratic oath. Good doctors still honor these words -- and so should legislators considering revisions to New York's drunk driving laws. Brendan Tully, a Democrat who ran for a seat in the state assembly, proposed a fundamental change in New York DWI law. Specifically, the proposal is to amend the law so that drivers charged with DWI are no longer allowed to plead to a lesser charge that is at the level of a traffic infraction. Although Tully did not win a seat in the Assembly, the proposal he put forward could come up again. Its ...

NC Supreme Court Issues Decision on Underinsured Motorist Coverage

2010-11-10
The North Carolina Supreme Court recently issued an opinion that underscores the importance of enlisting counsel for the long haul after a motor vehicle accident. The court considered whether a driver using a substitute vehicle was eligible for coverage under an underinsured and medical payments (UIM) auto insurance policy. In Martini v. Companion Prop. & Cas. Ins. Co., plaintiff Douglas Martini asserted that the UIM policy he carried on one of his vehicles should have covered his losses after he was seriously injured driving another vehicle that he owned.
