AKRON, OH, April 13, 2014 (Press-News.org) The visible signs of aging that ware seen on a person's skin such as sagging, wrinkles, discoloration, loss of firmness and texture, are the result of both intrinsic and extrinsic factors. Intrinsic factors include genetics, and other factors that we cannot control, while extrinsic are the outside factors that we can control such as sleep, nutrition and sun protection. To help prevent wrinkles in Akron, and to slow down the visible signs of aging, Dr. James Libecco of Akron Skin Center is available to provide an appropriate treatment plan.
"After a certain age, many people want to look and feel younger. After all, there is a certain sense of confidence gained by knowing that you look great for your age. If you know you look good, you will also feel good. Aging is an inevitable part of life, but when it comes to preventing wrinkles, there are anti-aging strategies that you can implement now to delay and reduce the onset of lines and wrinkles," said Dr. James Libecco in Akron about wrinkles.
With age, it seems as if everything slows. This includes the body's ability to make collagen, which keeps the skin firm. With less collagen, the skin loses elastin and hyaluronic acid, which allows the skin to retain water. By a person's 40s and 50s, the skin has lost firmness, spring, and moisture that result in fine lines and wrinkles.
Additionally, pale skin tends to wrinkle earlier than dark skin and people with pale skin also tend to develop more wrinkles and fine lines. When lines develop in dark skin the lines tend to be deeper. Constant muscle movement can create wrinkles such as areas of the forehead or around the mouth.
Sun, tanning beds and sun lamps are another main source for wrinkles, as they expose the skin to harmful ultraviolet rays. Exposure to UV rays accelerates the breakdown of collagen and elastin, which causes many people to see wrinkles and fine lines before they reach their 40s and 50s. These same UV rays that cause wrinkles can also cause skin cancer.
Aside from sun protection, one of the most important ways to prevent wrinkles in Akron is to eat a healthy diet. There is evidence that certain vitamins in a person's diet can help protect the skin, particularly vitamins A, C, B-3 and E. Patients who protect their skin from the sun can prevent wrinkles at the same time. By limiting the time spent in the sun and always wearing protective clothing and hats, patients can prevent wrinkles and damage to their skin.
"When selecting skin care products, choose those that have a built-in sun protection factor of at least 30 to further protect your skin. Also, be sure to select products that are broad spectrum, meaning they block both UVA and UVB rays," stated Dr. Libecco, an expert in cosmetic dermatology in Akron. "Dry skin shrivels plump skin cells, which can lead to premature fine lines and wrinkles, making it important to frequently use moisturizers on your skin. Though moisturizers can't prevent wrinkles, they may temporarily mask tiny lines and creases."
Aging is a fact of life, but there is no reason for a person's skin to look wrinkled and lined before it is time. With a good anti-aging skincare routine and prevention, patients in Akron can keep those wrinkles at bay for many years to come. Patients are encouraged to contact Dr. James Libecco of Akron Skin Center for more information on how to treat and prevent wrinkles.
