PICKERINGTON, OH, January 06, 2011 (Press-News.org) The early reviews for Progeny, the fantasy novel by R.T. Kaelin, are starting to roll in and they have all been extremely positive. The praise for the first book of The Children of the White Lions series is effusive.
"When I picked up Progeny, I was soon swept up into a world so large, and a tale so relentless, that I could not put it down. The plot flows as strongly as a waterfall but manages to pace itself and keep the reader guessing. The disparate characters we meet along the way are intriguing and richly nuanced, reminding one of Tolkien's without being derivative. This is a big book and a big world, surprisingly well conceived for a first novel. Many books (not to mention movies and video games) could be spun from the magical foundational pattern R.T. Kaelin has woven in Progeny." - D. Kistner, Associate Editor at FutureCycle Press.
"I would favorably compare his writing with Brandon Sanderson, Scott Lynch, (early) Robert Jordan and even a bit of David Eddings flavor mixed in...I got caught up and wanted to know what happens next. Not to mention wanting to know more and more about the world I was immersed into...I really enjoyed this book and my biggest disappointment is going to be waiting for the next installment." - C. Shadis at LibraryThing.com.
Interest in the book is high for this small-press book, and R.T. Kaelin has been very busy sharing it with readers throughout the first month of release. There were nearly 1,500 entries for giveaway contests of only a handful of copies of Progeny during its first month of release. The author has been touring high schools, talking with hundreds of students about creative writing and the power of the written word while sharing his love of reading and writing.
In the month ahead, R.T. Kaelin will be featured on The Authors Show where he talks about what went into writing Progeny and his inspirations behind the book. He will also be featured in a two-week-long Author's Chat at LibraryThing.com, hosted by the community where readers can interact with the author and ask questions about the book. Additional reviews are expected shortly from such respected outlets as FantasyBooksReview.com and Clover Hill Book Reviews. He will be announcing his first public book signings within the upcoming weeks.
Terrene Press released R.T. Kaelin's first novel, Progeny, to publication on December 1, 2010. Progeny is a 655-page fantasy novel that tells the story of two young siblings, a brother and sister, whose home is destroyed, friends and neighbors killed, and lives forever changed after a vicious attack on their village by a stranger. The event spurs the pair into a strange world where they discover their heritage has little to do with being the children of simple farmers. Swept up by myth and magic, they discover their destiny is much more than they could have ever imagined.
An ancient prophecy foretells the rise of a terrible evil that only the Progeny might be able to halt. But first, brother and sister must survive in a world where magic is outlawed while still pursued by the person responsible for the destruction of their lives. Progeny offers the reader an escape into a world free of economic uncertainty, political back-and-forth, and constant security threats, replacing them with a new set challenges and concerns.
R.T. Kaelin grew up in Cincinnati and now resides in Pickerington, Ohio with his wife and two children. For years, he worked in the information technology field in Columbus, but felt there was something more waiting for him. After investing the time and effort into writing his book, he queried literary agents across the country and quickly realized that the traditional method of publishing involved a high amount of luck. Reaching out using the Internet, he stated his case and asked for feedback and help from other authors. A publisher of poetry and flash fiction saw his post and put him in contact with her sister who was involved in the initial effort surrounding the self-published edition of a book that was picked up by a national publishing house before going on to make the New York Times bestsellers list.
R.T Kaelin is available for book signings or interviews. If interested in receiving a copy of Progeny for review, please contact him at rtkaelin@terrene.info. The website for Progeny is at www.progenythebook.com where the book is available for purchase along with other outlets like amazon.com. The book can also be ordered at any bookstore.
Terrene Press is a small press publisher in located in Columbus, OH that focuses on the fantasy genre.

Can bedding plants thrive with recycled water?
2011-01-04
EL PASO, TX – To conserve dwindling water resources, municipalities are encouraging the use of "recycled water", municipal wastewater that has been extensively treated and deemed safe to reuse for irrigation and other purposes. Using recycled water can be cost-effective and helps conserve the potable supply. In areas of the U.S. where production of bedding plants means income and jobs, commercial growers are looking for ways to use reclaimed or recycled water for irrigation, but using recycled water does not come without challenges. The water can contain high levels of ...
Even healthy cats act sick when their routine is disrupted
2011-01-04
COLUMBUS, Ohio – A cat regularly vomiting hairballs or refusing to eat probably isn't being finicky or otherwise "cat-like," despite what conventional wisdom might say. There is a good chance that the cat is acting sick because of the stress caused by changes in its environment, new research suggests.
Healthy cats were just as likely as chronically ill cats to refuse food, vomit frequently and leave waste outside their litter box in response to changes in their routine, according to the Ohio State University study. Veterinary clinicians refer to these acts as sickness ...

While not much is known about the condition, new research published in the January issue of The Journal of Nuclear Medicine shows that positron emission tomography (PET) scans can offer an evaluation of cognitive dysfunction of FIRES, its evolution and further prognosis.
FIRES, a recently named condition, occurs in previously healthy children who, after a brief ...
Resurrecting the so-called 'depression gene'
2011-01-04
ANN ARBOR, Mich. — University of Michigan Health System researchers have found new evidence that our genes help determine our susceptibility to depression.
Their findings, published online today in the Archives of General Psychiatry, challenge a 2009 study that called the genetic link into question and add new support to earlier research hailed as a medical breakthrough.
In the summer of 2003, scientists announced they had discovered a connection between a gene that regulates the neurotransmitter serotonin and an individual's ability to rebound from serious emotional ...
