Beauty Buzz: Plastic Surgery Predictions for 2011 and Beyond

Houston-area plastic surgeon offers his predictions for the industry in 2011.

2011-01-12
PEARLAND, TX, January 12, 2011 (Press-News.org) The plastic surgery industry has experienced its up and downs in the last decade. As we enter the second decade of the third millennium, Houston-area plastic surgeon Dr. Leo Lapuerta of the Plastic Surgery Institute of Southeast Texas offers his prediction for where the industry will be going in the next year, decade, and century.

"Curvy women will continue to be the beauty icons this year," says Dr. Lapuerta. "As women seek to emulate that standard of beauty, we will see an even bigger emphasis on body contouring procedures--like liposuction and tummy tucks--that help women to achieve the hourglass figure that distinguishes celebrities like Christina Hendricks. We will also see an emphasis on buttock augmentation as women strive to get a look like Kim Kardashian. The top five plastic surgery procedures for 2011 will be: liposuction, breast augmentation, rhinoplasty, tummy tuck, and blepharoplasty.

"In the next decade, we should get answers to all the remaining questions we have about the safety and effectiveness of breast augmentation using fat transfer (http://www.lookyounger.net/breast-augmentation.html). The techniques will be perfected and it will become a dependable alternative. It probably still won't completely replace breast implants for augmentation, but will become the preferred method for women desiring modest improvement in the size of their breasts.

"In the next century, we may learn how to control the body's mechanisms for fat deposition, allowing men and women to get the fat distribution they desire. We may also unlock the secrets of aging skin, the genetic triggers that make your skin act differently at age 50 than it does at age 20. This will allow men and women to continue enjoying the same appearance throughout their lifetimes."

What You Need to Know About Tax Planning for 2011 and 2012

2011-01-12
Anyone who has been to visit a financial planner or estate planning attorney this past year probably knows that the federal estate and generation-skipping transfer (GST) taxes were repealed for 2010. Even if you haven't visited an attorney to discuss your will or estate plan, you've likely heard a joke about how 2010 was a "great year to die." But as the year draws to a close, so does the repealed tax. So, the question is, what is next for the federal estate tax? If Congress hadn't acted in December, the estate and GST taxes would have been reinstated at their 2001 ...

Keep Your Address Up To Date To Ensure Continued SSI Benefits

2011-01-12
Direct deposit has made receiving a regular check in the mail a thing of the past for many recipients of Social Security benefits. But just because the Social Security Administration doesn't need your address to send you a check, that doesn't mean that you don't need to keep them informed about where you live. That's particularly true for people who receive SSI (Supplemental Security Income) benefits. SSI is determined in part based on where a person lives, his or her living arrangement (with others or alone), and the number of people in the residence. Also, some states ...

Bill to Overhaul Motor Vehicle Safety Law Pending

2011-01-12
Ralph Nader, a longtime advocate for auto safety, has called on Congress to pass a bill that would enable the overhaul of the nation's auto safety regulations in the wake of the Toyota sudden acceleration issue. The bill, if passed, would become the "Motor Vehicle Safety Act of 2010." Nader said it would "strengthen sanctions and advance certain safety improvements and capabilities" of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The bill would require the NHTSA to create the Center for Vehicle Electronics, Vehicle Software, and Emerging Technologies. ...

However, there are some simple steps you should take after an accident, no matter how minor it may be, that can help protect you after the accident -- especially if you have trouble down the road getting the insurance company to pay your medical expenses or other covered losses. For Those Struggling To Pay a Mortgage, HAMP May Help

2011-01-12
In its original form, the federal government's Home Affordable Mortgage Program (HAMP) met with considerable criticism. The program was designed to give incentives to banks and other lenders and servicers that hold mortgages, in return for lowering the mortgage rates of qualified homeowners. But lenders did not actually agree to very many mortgage modifications and the program did relatively little to keep people in their homes and prevent foreclosures. The Obama administration has revised the program, however, to better target relief for homeowners who are experiencing ...

Is a Prenuptial Agreement Right for You?

2011-01-12
In the excitement leading up to a wedding, thoughts and concerns usually revolve around sending invitations to guests, booking a caterer and disc jockey for the reception, getting fit for the dress or the tux, and the countless other details that go into making the wedding day special. Most, however, don't think about or don't want to think about the "what ifs" of marriage, including the possibility that the marriage could end in divorce. Even though going into the wedding a couple may not want to think about or plan for a divorce, it may be in the best interests of ...

Refusing Breath or Blood Alcohol Testing in Virginia

2011-01-12
You are cruising along one of Virginia's roads, highways or thoroughfares and you see flashing lights behind you. A police officer is signaling for you to pull over. As you hand over your driver's license, the officer smells what he thinks is alcohol on your breath. You find yourself being accused of driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol (DUI) and being asked to step out of the car for field sobriety and breath testing. You think that maybe if you just refuse to take the tests the police won't be able to prove that you were or were not driving while intoxicated. ...

De Minimis Height and How It Relates to New York Labor Law Section 240(1)

2011-01-12
The core objective of Section 240(1) is to require that workers have adequate safety devices to protect them from being injured by falling from one level to another or when some material or object falls resulting in injury. There must be some measurable distance between the worker and the lower level or the object which may fall onto the worker. Section 240 of the Labor Law does not have any minimum height requirement as a condition for the statute to apply to any given case. Yet, the statute will not apply to every case, only those which situations which give rise to the ...

Patrick Burns Interviewed by Pioneer Press on Bankruptcy Filings in Minnesota

2011-01-12
Twin Cities attorney Patrick Burns was quoted extensively in the St. Paul Pioneer Press on January 4 regarding the evolving financial profiles of bankruptcy filers. A few years ago, the typical consumer bankruptcy was likely to involve extensive credit card debt. Today, in the wake of the Great Recession, high unemployment and depressed real estate values have led many people with significant assets to consider bankruptcy. In his interview with the Pioneer Press, Mr. Burns explained how filing for bankruptcy can, in some cases, be a sound strategic choice for people ...
