Wine and Design Raises Over $1,500 for National Pancreatic Cancer Foundation

Wine and painting party company partners with long-time patron to hold fundraiser in honor of stricken spouse

2011-03-12
RALEIGH, NC, March 12, 2011 (Press-News.org) Wine and Design recently held a fundraiser to raise funds and awareness for the National Pancreatic Cancer Foundation. The two-hour painting party attracted 35 participants and was held on behalf of long-time patron, Jackie Woodcock, whose husband Phil died of the disease. Wine and Design donated 100% of the event's profits to the Foundation and gave an additional gift of $612.50—bringing their total donation to $1,575.

"Offering the fundraiser at Wine and Design on February 12th was special to me," says Woodcock. "Valentine's Day is our wedding anniversary. Each year the world celebrates love, and Wine and Design gave me love this year by their donation to the National Pancreatic Cancer Foundation."

Pancreatic cancer is the fourth leading cause of cancer deaths in the United States. There is no known cure; however, there are new developments everyday to prolong and sustain the quality of life of the pancreatic cancer patient. The mission of the National Pancreatic Cancer Foundation is to provide support for all those afflicted with or affected by pancreatic cancer through the use of patient advocacy, educational awareness, and direct financial resource support programs.

Woodcock's husband died of pancreatic cancer in 2005 after an 11-month battle with the disease. She has been involved in the local Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, which raises awareness and funds for pancreatic cancer. She also leads GriefShare at her church and volunteers for Hospice of Wake County. Woodcock says that although she's not an artist, she loves to paint and is grateful for the continued friendship and support received by Wine and Design owners, Harriet Mills and Emmy Preiss.

"The Wine and Design owners and artists are now part of my family," says Woodcock. "I love going there to paint and just visit. It's a wonderful place to fellowship with new people. The fundraiser on behalf of Phil was truly a wonderful experience and one that I will treasure always."

Preiss says that one of the most rewarding things about Wine and Design is holding fundraisers and getting the opportunity to raise money for so many worthwhile causes and organizations. She said that the event held in honor of Phil Woodcock was extra special and gratifying.

"Jackie has been coming to Wine and Design since we opened our doors last April," says Preiss. "She is by far our best customer and is the reason that both Harriet [Mills] and I were really excited about this fundraiser in particular. Seeing the joy in her eyes when so many people turned out to offer their hope and encouragement was amazing. We were thrilled to be able to do this for Jackie and hope that our efforts will somehow help another family in need."

About Wine and Design
Wine and Design is the dream of longtime friends and business partners Emmy Preiss and Harriet Mills. The premise of the business is to provide "memories and a masterpiece" in just two hours. Painting sessions are led by a local artist who provides step-by-step instructions to first-time painters, aspiring artists, or self-proclaimed pro's that result in an individualized work of art. Wine and Design accepts general reservations, but also books private parties. Bridal showers, baby showers, Bunco, and girls' night out are just a few of their offerings, as well as a selection of events just for kids. The company also hosts fundraisers, with a portion of the proceeds going directly to the cause. For more information, call (919) 374-0667 or visit their website at http://www.wineanddesignnc.com.
