SEATTLE, WA, March 31, 2011 (Press-News.org) Inspired by the colorful, captivating designs of classic hockey uniforms, Seattle-based Ebbets Field Flannels (ebbets.com), maker of vintage inspired, historically accurate athletic clothing, today debuted a new line of hockey sweaters. Fabricated using 16-gauge jersey knit wool in the US on the same circular knit machines the original sweaters were made on decades ago, Ebbets' hockey sweaters are crafted using the same patterns as classic sweaters from an era when helmets were optional and tie-fronts were standard.
Custom made in limited production runs of six, Ebbets Field Flannels' hockey sweaters feature reinforced shoulder yokes and elbows and historically accurate cresting and numbers created with hand-sewn felt. The garments also sport stripes that are knit-in, not sewn on. Storied teams from hockey's past like the Quebec Aces and the Pittsburgh Hornets are among the growing list of available sweaters.
"We are fans of the thoughtfully designed and well-made feel of classic hockey jerseys and set out to re-create some of the very best, and until now, very unavailable sweaters for fans of hockey and fashion alike," said Ebbets Field Flannels founder Jerry Cohen, who personally spent time in the vault at the Hockey Hall of Fame, studying the moth-eaten, bloodstained sweaters. "As a historian and archivist, I've sought out the original fabrics used in their creation, and designed a sweater that inspires wearers and harkens back to a time when quality and durability were paramount."
Ebbets Field Flannels prides itself on its relationships with customers and the feedback they provide, and recently held a Facebook contest to select the next historic hockey team's jersey to be created. After all of the votes were tallied, the Houston Apollos came out on top. Ebbets Field Flannels is also well known for its vintage-inspired baseball jerseys, football jerseys, and baseball hats - which are available in J. Crew stores. For more information on Ebbets Field Flannels, or to purchase a historic hockey sweater, visit them online at http://Ebbets.com.
Ebbets Field Flannels' hockey sweaters are made to order and take 4-6 weeks for delivery. Prices range from $225. High-resolution photos are available.
