2010-09-10
LOS ANGELES, CA, September 10, 2010 (Press-News.org) Many entrepreneurs and business owners receive interview requests from the media inviting them to provide their expertise. However, most of these entrepreneurs are unprepared for the interviews and fail to convey their key messages effectively, or they allow their nervousness to interfere with their delivery.

Lisa Elia, CEO and president of Lisa Elia Public Relations, and a public relations expert with more than 20 years of experience, provides these tips for preparing and delivering an effective interview:

- warm up your vocal chords and mouth through singing, humming and tongue twisters;
- stay engaged, even when you don't think you're on camera;
- develop key message points and answers to common questions and challenging questions prior to being interviewed;
- keep facts and key points on hand to review before the interview.

"These tips only skim the surface, there's much more that we do to prepare our clients before interviews and the preparation makes a big difference in terms of their effectiveness, comfort level and how they're received by TV and radio producers and journalists. Good media training is a must for anyone who wants to be in the public eye," says Elia, who has prepared clients for interviews she has booked with "The Oprah Winfrey Show," CNN, E! Entertainment, ABC News and other outlets.

On September 25, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Elia will provide more guidance when she hosts her Media Training Full-Day Intensive in Los Angeles. During this day of training, Elia will provide:

• a "messaging" session on the phone on September 22 to help the participants clarify their messaging prior to the media training day;
• instruction on interview preparation techniques and questions to ask before each interview;
• individual on-camera sessions where she will provide feedback and share techniques that will improve interviewing skills;
• a recording of each participant's on-camera session and wrap-up notes.

Renowned Alexander Technique teacher Sharon Jakubecy will lead a brief session and share the techniques she teaches professional actors, musicians and singers to help relieve physical tension associated with nervousness.

Tickets for the day-long intensive, including the messaging session, are $495. To register, visit http://www.clearpublicist.com/mediatraining.html.
