LONDON, ENGLAND, August 11, 2010 (Press-News.org) Lloyds TSB is introducing free mobile banking for all of its customers from 3 August, enabling more people to take control of their their finances.
Since the introduction of mobile banking in 2008, Lloyds TSB customers can manage their finances whilst on the move.
- Customers can transfer money between eligible accounts using the mobile banking application
- Low and High Balance alerts are sent to advise customers when their current account balances go above or below certain levels, which can be specified. This allows customers to avoid using their overdraft facility
- A 'near limit' alert when a customer's balance is within GBP50 of its account or planned overdraft limit, could help customers avoid unplanned overdraft fees
- An 'over limit' alert is sent when a customer's balance is over its limit or if a payment can't be made because there is not enough money in the account
According to a recent survey commissioned by Lloyds TSB(2), just under two thirds (62%) of consumers stated that there should be more tools like mobile banking available, to help people manage money more effectively. A quarter of those surveyed said they would be motivated to use mobile banking if it were free.
The rise in online banking and similar options, such as mobile and telephony, now provides consumers with more options to manage their money than ever before. In response to this demand, the mobile banking service will be available, free for all customers from 3 August.
Customers can also benefit from more specific financial tools that should help them avoid incurring overdraft charges, these include :
- Grace period - If a customer's account goes into a planned or unplanned overdraft they have a grace period until 3.30pm the same day to pay in enough money to cover the payments and avoid any fees
- GBP10 Buffer - The introduction of the fee free and interest free GBP10 buffer in December will help customers who dip into their overdraft by less than GBP10, avoid charges
Jatin Patel, Personal Current Accounts Director, Lloyds TSB, said: "We are keen to provide our customers with a variety of tools, enabling them to take more control of their finances. Mobile banking provides the perfect way for people to manage their money on the move.
"Our decision to offer free mobile banking to everyone, from August 3 (currently GBP2.50 per month) should really encourage more customers to embrace the range of tools available, as well as helping them manage their finances more efficiently."

Federal Defense of Marriage Act Ruled Unconstitutional
2010-08-11
In a recent landmark decision, Judge Joseph L. Tauro (of the Federal District Court for the District of Massachusetts), declared that the federal Defense of Marriage Act (commonly known as DOMA) violates the United States Constitution. Judge Tauro's legal opinion centers around equal protection as well as the concept of states' rights. This lawsuit arose in the year 2009, when the Boston-based Gay and Lesbian Advocates and Defenders (GLAD) challenged the law on behalf of seven same-sex couples (who were legally married under Massachusetts law). GLAD argued that the DOMA ...
Don't Walk Away, Consider Bankruptcy
2010-08-11
Between the current economic crisis and the collapse of the housing market, many homeowners find themselves either in a home they cannot afford or in a home that is not worth as much as they still owe. In either case, many borrowers may think handing over the keys and walking away is the best option - this may be a mistake.
Fannie Mae's Tougher Penalties
In October, Fannie Mae will begin increasing the penalties for borrowers who strategically default on a mortgage. A strategic default occurs when a borrower walks away, for whatever reason, from property and a mortgage ...
New Wave of Foreclosures Coming in 2010
2010-08-11
As 2010 began, there were some signs of stabilization in the housing market according to the CEO of Freddie Mac, Charles Haldeman, Jr. Federal tax credits, low prices and low mortgage rates were all expected to fuel the recovery. Still, Haldeman cautioned at the time, the recovery was fragile and there was the potential for a large wave of foreclosures. Unfortunately, Haldeman appeared to be right.
RealtyTrac, a leading foreclosure listing service, released its Midyear 2010 U.S. Foreclosure Market Report earlier this month. According to the report, over 1.65 million ...
