Miami Defense Attorney Diana Gonzalez Runs for Judge

MIAMI, FL, March 19, 2012

Ferrer Shane, PL is proud to announce that one of its attorneys, Diana E. Gonzalez, is running for Miami-Dade County Court Judge.

Starting her career in 2004, Diana Gonzalez was rapidly promoted up the ranks in the Public Defender's Office, first handling misdemeanor charges, then defending young people in the juvenile division, to ultimately defending clients charged with the most serious felonies - all in the span of just five years, trying everything from a traffic ticket to a murder case.

Having traveled abroad with the U.S. Department of Defense and with USAID to teach criminal defense strategies to transitioning countries, Diana recognizes what makes our constitution one-of-a-kind, and as Judge she will handle cases promptly, efficiently and fairly, with the understanding that this is essential to justice.

Diana also keenly understands that legal issues affect more than just the people who would stand before her in the court room. Regardless if it is a civil case, a criminal, probate, landlord tenant, or claims case, Diana knows that the case impacts victims, witnesses, defendants, family members, and friends on both sides. The outcome of a case has a ripple effect on the economy, our communities, and our sense of well-being as a society. No matter the nature of the case before her, Diana's experience, integrity and knowledge will give her the tools necessary to balance all of the above while staying true to the law.

Diana's well-rounded life experiences add to her ability to be a fair and impartial judge. She has seen both sides of the coin, knowing what it is to be a victim, and knowing what it is to have loved ones involved in the criminal justice system. She knows what it is to struggle economically and also what it means to run a business.

Diana has worked hard all her life. She will bring to the bench the same strong work ethic she developed since going to work at age 14. Despite being the youngest child, she was the first in her family to graduate from high school, college, and ultimately law school.

Having spent the majority of her days as a lawyer in the court room, Diana knows that everyone should be treated with respect. She also believes that people should be held accountable for their actions through a fair and equal legal process. As Miami-Dade County Court Judge, Diana is guaranteed to treat each individual, victim, defendant, witness, attorney, law enforcement officer and court room staff with equal dignity and respect.
