Texas Executive Search Firm Sees Increase in Hiring Activity for Middle and Senior Level Executive Positions
2012-05-11
DALLAS, TX, May 11, 2012 (Press-News.org) Carl J. Taylor & Co., a Texas executive search firm based in Dallas, is receiving an increase in inquiries from employers who are unable to find the people they need for middle and senior level executive positions. According to Carl Taylor, President of the firm, the inquiries are coming from a wide variety of businesses.

"We have had a number of contacts from some very small companies," said Taylor. "Some of these smaller organizations are start-ups or relatively new companies, but many of them have been in business for several years." Taylor also noted that larger companies are also calling regarding their hiring needs. He stated that all of these companies have hiring needs for a variety of reasons, including new business opportunities, expansion into new markets or product lines, filling delayed hiring needs due to the economy, retirements, and changes brought on by evaluations of their existing management teams.

Taylor indicated that the inquiries are not concentrated in one or a few industries. He has received assignments in professional services, manufacturing, hospitality, media, financial services, real estate, and engineering. "The industry picture continues to be mixed," said Taylor. "One manufacturing company may be pursuing new management hires, and another one in the same business down the street may not."

Similarly, the functional backgrounds and skill sets being sought include a wide range of capabilities. "We have pursued sales, accounting/finance, general management, technical, and operations professionals," said Taylor. The demand for experienced sales people has been especially strong, but each company has unique requirements.

"Given our Dallas location and our experience in Texas, most of the inquiries we receive concern Texas based positions," said Taylor. Some of these requests for services have come from companies located out of state or overseas which have existing Texas operations or which are considering expansion into Texas.

The increase in hiring activity is encouraging to Taylor; however, the overall Texas recruitment picture is still inconsistent. A lot of companies and business owners are hesitant to hire because of the uncertainty in the economy. Taylor noted, "The demand for people is picking up, but I believe we will see some significant increases as the fog of uncertainty lifts."

Carl J. Taylor is a Dallas executive search and recruitment expert with over 20 years of experience in the recruitment industry. Carl J. Taylor & Co., an executive search firm, has successfully completed challenging search assignments for key board of director and management level positions in Texas and around the country. Clot-busting drug safe for stroke patients taking blood thinner

2012-05-11
Acute ischemic stroke patients taking the blood thinner warfarin can be treated safely with the clot-busting drug tissue plasminogen activator (tPA), according to research presented at the American Heart Association's Quality of Care and Outcomes Research Scientific Sessions 2012. "Although it's the only drug approved by the Food and Drug Administration to treat acute ischemic stroke, tPA is underused among patients on home warfarin therapy mainly because of the fear that it will cause bleeding," said Ying Xian, M.D., Ph.D., the study's lead author and a research fellow ...

5-limbed brittle stars move bilaterally, like people
2012-05-11
PROVIDENCE, R.I. [Brown University] — It appears that the brittle star, the humble, five-limbed dragnet of the seabed, moves very similarly to us. In a series of first-time experiments, Brown University evolutionary biologist Henry Astley discovered that brittle stars, despite having no brain, move in a very coordinated fashion, choosing a central arm to chart direction and then designating other limbs to propel it along. Yet when the brittle star wants to change direction, it designates a new front, meaning that it chooses a new center arm and two other limbs to move. ...

Evolution's gift may also be at the root of a form of autism

2012-05-11
A recently evolved pattern of gene activity in the language and decision-making centers of the human brain is missing in a disorder associated with autism and learning disabilities, a new study by Yale University researchers shows. "This is the cost of being human," said Nenad Sestan, associate professor of neurobiology, researcher at Yale's Kavli Institute for Neuroscience, and senior author of the paper. "The same evolutionary mechanisms that may have gifted our species with amazing cognitive abilities have also made us more susceptible to psychiatric disorders such ...

2012-05-11
May 11, 2012 – Melanoma is the most deadly form of skin cancer, estimated by the National Cancer Institute to afflict more than 70,000 people in the United States annually and the incidence rate continues to rise. In a study published online in Genome Research (www.genome.org), researchers have identified a previously unknown non-coding RNA that plays an important role in the biology of melanoma, a finding that could lead to a new target for therapy. Most skin cancers are nonmelanomas, arising from cells other than melanocytes (the melanin-producing cells that are responsible ...
