Then it came to her: Create an app that sets family bonding to music.Carter's recently released app, Audio Granny, includes 15 classic lullabies, each arranged to piano accompaniment. As a song plays, the lyrics are highlighted on screen, prompting each line--word by word. Once you've mastered the song, simply turn down the voice volume and sing along with the piano melody; or mute the device and sing a capella as the words scroll. Each song includes a lyrics sheet as well as a vocal track.
The 99-cent app runs on both the iPhone and the iPad (you buy it once and enjoy it on all of your iOS devices) and features such classics as "Hey Diddle Diddle" and "Itsy Bitsy Spider" as well as lesser-known tunes worth adding into your lullaby rotation.
Adding to the experience, Audio Granny En Español ($.99, sold separately) includes a collection of 13 timeless children's tunes presented in Spanish.
The clever grand-mompreneur designed the app with text size control for those users with "grandmother's eyes," which enables one to enlarge the lyrics even while the lullaby is playing. Another highlight of the app includes a continuous play function, which comes in handy when, say, when you're putting baby to bed. Just click the Infinity button, and the app plays streaming lullabies.
"When my two kids were born, my mother-in-law and her mother introduced me to some unique lullabies. I learned them and sang them to my babies every day. I really cherished that time with them," remembers Carter.
