BRIGHTON, ENGLAND, August 21, 2010 (Press-News.org) The annual muddy antics for the worldwide followers of the World Bog Snorkelling Championships is scheduled to take place this year in its home town of Llanwrtyd Wells, Powys on 29th August. The event, sponsored for the first time this year, by Fun Swim Shop, has been moved to August Bank Holiday Sunday to enable competitors and spectators the luxury of a long weekend away in this special little town.
Llanwrtyd Wells, whilst recognised as the Smallest Town in the UK, also won the Calor 'Best Village' award last year. As well as its famous size, the town has an infamous reputation for its calendar full of rather eccentric events all of which are run and managed on a voluntary basis by enthusiastic members of the local community.
The "FunSwimShop World Bog Snorkelling Championships" is organised by a voluntary committee run by Sheelagh Tompkins, herself a keen competitor in the Bog Snorkelling arena and an avid supporter of her hometown of Llanwrtyd. She, like all of the Green Events members and helpers, realises the wide reaching benefits of the events to the town and wider region.
Sheelagh told us: "These events bring people from all over the world to Wales and are raising the profile of Mid Wales which remains a largely unknown tourist destination. Being somewhat 'unusual' it also attracts huge media interest. But, not only is it good for tourism, it really livens up the town. It's so great to have so many visitors and it creates a real party atmosphere. All the events end up with parties in all the local pubs with really good live music and everyone has a good old dance!"
For those of you who have never experienced the sport of Bog Snorkelling, a visit to these world championships is highly recommended, whether as a competitor or spectator. Competitors can register in advance or on the day. The event starts at 10am but runs all day as a time trial in the two peat bog trenches at Waen Rhydd on the outskirts of Llanwrtyd. The location is amidst stunning scenery in a field in the proud ownership of local farmer John Davies (who, to date, has not taken the Bog Snorkelling challenge!).
Competitors navigate two 60yard lengths of the murky waters without using recognised swimming strokes aiming to beat the world record time of 1min 35.18 seconds held by Joanna Pitchforth from Heckmondwike. Prize categories for men, women, junior, best fancy dress and local entrant. Fancy dress is encouraged.

Obtaining an EB-5 Visa by Investing in a Regional Center
2010-08-21
For those seeking permanent resident status in the United States, the often underutilized EB-5 Immigrant Investor Program may be a productive avenue. The "Immigrant Investor Visa", or EB-5 visa, is an investment-based opportunity that lets foreign nationals obtain a green card. By investing in a commercial enterprise in the United States and creating jobs for U.S. workers, foreign citizens may be able to become permanent U.S. residents. However, the EB-5 program is not as simple as it may appear, and there are several potential pitfalls to keep in mind.

Family Law Attorneys Urge Less Adversarial Approach to Custody Disputes
2010-08-21
A push by the American Bar Association - arising from their recent "Families Matter" symposium - seeks to collaboratively create an alternative system of conflict resolution for couples involved in custody disputes. Family law attorneys from around the nation gathered to flesh out a plan to revolutionize the process of resolving family law issues, particularly those relating to divorces, custody battles and relocations.
Why Is Change Needed?
At present, even relatively simple divorces or other family court matters can easily take a year to resolve and cost parties ...
The Evolution of Fatherhood
2010-08-21
In the aftermath of a global financial crisis, more and more men find themselves being so-called "stay-at-home dads". Scores of layoffs - 80 percent of them affecting men - have chosen to forgo their job search and be full-time caregivers. Other men have consciously made the decision to leave the hustle and bustle of the workplace, wanting to see for themselves how it is to spend more time with their families.
The idea that mothers alone are responsible for the bulk of child rearing is changing, and the world is more accepting of fathers who choose to be more involved. ...
America, Land of the ... Prosecuted?
2010-08-21
As crime rates continue to serve as a hot-button political issue, campaigners have increasingly held a "get tough on crime" stand. While attempting to take a bite out of crime has become a bipartisan pastime, America's prisons have filled with more than murderers, rapists and violent gang members. According to The Economist, there are currently approximately 200,000 inmates over the age of 50; this is roughly the total number of prisoners of all ages in 1970.
Prison is expensive. To house the state's incarcerated population, Pennsylvania taxpayers annually pay approximately ...
When Questioned By Police (And With No Attorney), Some Falsely Confess
2010-08-21
For as long as there have been police dramas on TV, there have been dramatic jailhouse confessions -- the accused breaks down, sobbing, and admits to the police that yes, he committed the crime. But for many innocent people, the drama of a police interrogation is entirely real, and it's enough to make even innocent people confess to crimes they never committed.
The Innocence Project, a national organization dedicated to establishing (through DNA testing) the innocence of those wrongly convicted, says that 25 percent of the wrongful convictions it has overturned included ...
"Stop on Red Week" Reminds Drivers to Obey Traffic Signals
2010-08-21
The Federal Highway Administration recently sponsored their ninth annual "National Stop on Red Week," aimed at increasing awareness of the hazards associated with running red lights. Though most motorists assume that speeding or driving while intoxicated causes the majority of accidents around the country, that is not the case with accidents in urban or metropolitan areas - in those locations, red light running is the leading cause. Sadly, half of the deaths associated with a driver's failure to stop at a red light are of innocent bystanders like pedestrians and occupants ...
