Caring for Your Incisions

Chemicals in cigarette smoke inhibit proper wound healing and will, without question, impact the final appearance of your scars. Because nicotine is a vascular constrictor, it is advisable that you quit without the use of nicotine supplements as these can also impact your body's natural healing ability.

In addition to not smoking, be sure to keep your incisions clean at all times, take all prescribed medications, and refrain from any activities your plastic surgeon advises you to avoid. These steps can go a long way in helping your incisions heal cleanly, which will reduce visible scarring.
