TORONTO, ON, January 30, 2013 (Press-News.org) Many people spend the majority of their days on their feet and pain may often interfere with their daily activities. If a patient experiences heel pain or discomfort, it is important to begin treatment immediately. Sheldon Nadal, D.P.M., Toronto podiatrist, is the excellent source for treating and protecting patients' heels from further damage.
Plantar fasciitis is an inflammation of the band of tissue (the fascia) that extends from the heel to the toes. The fascia first becomes irritated followed by inflammation, which causes heel pain or arch pain. One of the most common causes of plantar fasciitis is a faulty foot structure. People who have problems with their arches, such as those who have flat feet or high arched feet, may be more prone to developing plantar fasciitis in Toronto.
"It is important that my patients receive the best care possible to help eliminate their pain and discomfort. With advancements in podiatric procedures, I am pleased to offer my patients multiple options for relief of their pain. From Extracorporeal Shock Wave Therapy to Laser and Radial Wave/Pressure Wave treatment, I can successfully treat my patients' heel pain and arch pain," said Sheldon Nadal, Toronto, ON podiatrist.
Extracorporeal Shock Wave Therapy, or ESWT, is a non-invasive therapeutic use of high intensity sound waves for the treatment of chronic orthopedic problems, such as plantar fasciitis. ESWT is typically appropriate for patients experiencing heel pain for at least4 to 6 months and when combined with Toronto orthotics can result in reduction or elimination of arch pain or heel pain. If treatment is unsuccessful, Sheldon Nadal, D.P.M. will complete ESWT or another form of treatment. ESWT is typically appropriate for patients who have been experiencing heel pain for at least six months and have continued to experience pain after conservative treatment.
Additionally, if a patient's plantar fasciitis has been present for less than six months, or if they have other painful foot conditions, the pain and inflammation can be reduced without taking anti-inflammatory medication, or cortisone injections. Sheldon Nadal, D.P.M., podiatrist in Toronto, ON, combines super pulsed laser treatments with a sound modality called radial wave, pressure wave or radial shockwave, to reduce pain and inflammation without pills and injections. These treatments have been featured in Zoomer Magazine, Global Television and Elevate Magazine.
