Increasing the Mandatory Coverage Limits: Providing Protection For All West Virginians
2013-04-08
Consider an all-too-real scenario. Amanda, a working mom, is t-boned by a driver who runs through a red light. The car she's driving is a total loss. Amanda's leg is broken, requiring surgery. Because of her injuries, Amanda is unable to return to her waitressing job for several weeks.
Where can Amanda get relief? She has lost her only mode of transportation, she has mounting medical bills, and she has no income to care for herself or her child. The law provides a remedy, of course. Amanda can sue the driver who caused the wreck. But the bigger question is: will he have ...

Fight at Baggage Carousel Inspires New Travel Solution to Deter Bag Theft
2013-04-08
After witnessing a fight at an airport over a bag, veteran marketing professional Brenda Noah-Navarro had a Eureka moment! She conceived and developed a variety of colorful peel and stick fabric labels called BAGPATCH. The luggage labels help travelers distinguish their suitcase from afar minimizing luggage theft or mistaken identity.
She was inspired after returning from a long trip and landing at the busy Miami International Airport. Like most passengers, after disembarking the plane Ms. Noah-Navarro headed to the baggage claim area and stood close to the carousel ...
Unfair? Thomas Mansfield Sheds Light on Latest Trade Union Unfair Dismissal Awards Capping
2013-04-08
As part of the new employment law changes coming into effect this summer, the government has announced a cap on the amount that can be paid out in unfair dismissal awards. The current maximum is GBP74,200, but employment relations minister Jo Swinson said a 12-month cap would provide "greater certainty about the maximum liability that can be paid in an unfair dismissal claim." She added, "we are committed to finding ways to support both businesses and employees when a working relationship breaks down."
But Trade Unions have condemned the rules as ...

Engineered T cells kill tumors but spare normal tissue in an animal model
2013-04-07
PHILADELPHIA – The need to distinguish between normal cells and tumor cells is a feature that has been long sought for most types of cancer drugs. Tumor antigens, unique proteins on the surface of a tumor, are potential targets for a normal immune response against cancer. Identifying which antigens a patient's tumor cells express is the cornerstone of designing cancer therapy for that individual. But some of these tumor antigens are also expressed on normal cells, inching personalized therapy back to the original problem.
T cells made to express a protein called CAR, ...
