Leading Paleo Authority Mark Sisson of the Primal Blueprint Honored to Be Among "Top Five Worst Cookbook Authors"

LOS ANGELES, CA, December 23, 2010 (Press-News.org) Mark Sisson, author of The Primal Blueprint and thought leader in the paleo, Primal, low-carb online world, is thrilled with Primal Blueprint Cookbook's inclusion in the Physicians' Committee for Responsible Medicine's "5 Worst Cookbooks of 2010."

But, while the PCRM - a non-profit with vegan ideological leanings - certainly intended to dissuade consumers from purchasing the book, Sisson suspects it will have the opposite effect, saying that his book's inclusion on a list with such notables as Chef Gordon Ramsay, the Barefoot Contessa, and the creators of TV's "Top Chef" is a sign that the grassroots Primal movement - started by a public concerned about health and weight - is gaining traction.

The evidence certainly seems to point toward a growing movement that cannot be ignored. Sisson's blog, Mark's Daily Apple (www.marksdailyapple.com), has become one of the leading online destinations for those seeking information on the benefits of a hunter-gatherer, or Paleolithic, diet. Sisson's self-published Primal Blueprint rose to #2 overall on Amazon.com in March 2010, and, as a result of the PCRM award, his cookbook has jumped to the top of Amazon's Low Carbohydrate book rankings - all without the marketing muscle of a big publishing house.

While the PCRM claims to make dietary and medical recommendations based on sound evidence, their members are composed almost entirely of staunch vegan activists who, Sisson says, "tend to use outdated and often inappropriate data to substantiate their ideological stance against animal products. Meanwhile voluminous research in the past decade has shown that excess carbohydrate consumption, and grains in particular, are quite likely responsible for the obesity epidemic." In a nation of overweight, diabetic, and chronically ill patients who have tried doing what these "experts" recommend about health and nutrition, and have failed miserably, perhaps it's time to start paying attention to what's actually working for millions of people taking charge of their own health.

PCRM's Nutrition Educator states, "the 5 cookbooks are blueprints for obesity and heart disease." Sisson replies, "how ironic that a cookbook (such as the Primal Blueprint) based on an unprocessed diet of fresh meat and fish, loads of vegetables, fruits, healthy fats and nuts is judged among the unhealthiest of the year!"
