Nation's most prestigious awards program features residential, commercial/retail and specialty categories in 48th year.

SAN FRANCISCO, CA, March 03, 2011 (Press-News.org) The 2011 Gold Nugget Awards competition offers unprecedented opportunities for recognition of professional excellence in design, planning and project development, with entries from throughout the United States and internationally eligible this year. Additionally, the nation's oldest and most notable awards program will offer the ease of online entry processing.

"Architects, planners and builder/developers will have greater opportunities than ever before to present their best work to Gold Nugget judges, and we are excited about reaching out to entrants from throughout our nation and abroad," said Peter Mayer, Gold Nugget Judging Chairman. "We're also moving the entire entry process online, making it more convenient and cost effective."

Eligible entries that were open for sale, lease or rental at any time after January 1, 2009, are eligible for the 2011 competition. Previous Merit award winners are eligible if they meet this time and date criteria.

Residential categories for 2011 cover custom homes, renovations and adaptive re-use, detached and attached for-sale homes, apartment projects, age qualified housing, affordable projects and campus housing. Residential Project of the Year categories, green and sustainable development and diverse elements of community site planning also highlight residential categories.

Commercial/Retail categories include rehabilitation projects, office/professional building designs, public or private special use and recreational projects and retail projects. International projects include attached and detached residential projects, site plans, commercial and on-the-boards work.

Special focus recognition covers kitchen, bath, outdoor living space and special interior spaces. At the judges' discretion, a Home of the Year and/or Judges' Special Awards may be presented.

Key dates:
- Fees and applications--on or before April 1, 2011
- Entry materials/online--on or before April 15
- Gold Nugget Merit Award winners will be announced the week of May 16 and posted on www.goldnuggetawards.com; these winners are finalists for a Gold Nugget Grand Award
- The Gold Nugget celebration of Merit and Grand Award winners is June 23 in San Francisco at PCBC--The Premier Building Show
