Want To Make An Impression on Someone...Write A Handwritten Note! Envelopes.com survey reveals now more than ever the personal touch makes a huge impression.

In a recent survey conducted by Envelopes.com, the vast majority of consumers surveyed said that traditional mail remains an important part of their everyday communications

2011-03-03
NEW YORK, NY, March 03, 2011 (Press-News.org) Even in today's digital world, consumers still like getting "real" mail - mail that they can hold in their hands, feel the weight of, and post with magnets on their refrigerators. In a recent survey conducted by Envelopes.com, the leading online supplier of plain and printed envelopes, paper, note cards and card stock, just over 70 percent of consumers surveyed said that traditional mail remains an important part of their everyday communications. They still prefer to send - and receive - traditional holiday and birthday cards, personal letters, invitations, and thank you notes.

"People seem to equate the use of traditional mail with a higher level of personal involvement and sincerity. A handwritten thank-you note or a specially chosen greeting card clearly carries more meaning that a clip-art version sent by email," said Seth Newman, president of Envelopes.com. The firm has recently expanded its printing offerings to businesses, organizations and individuals worldwide.

According to the survey, consumers identified personal invitations as a major usage for traditional mail; 75 percent said they don't foresee traditional invitations ever being completely replaced by email invitations. "Over 90 percent of our respondents reported that they feel more satisfied when they receive traditional mail," said Newman, "which is probably why they are more inclined to use it themselves for personal communications."

Other survey results include:

-72% use traditional mail the most often for greeting cards.
-89% believe that the main reason for using traditional mail is the "personal touch."
-45% utilize traditional mail for communicating a few times a month, with 30% doing so several times a week.
-55% believe it is easier to remember important dates when communication is sent via traditional mail.
-70% perceive a traditionally mailed invite to be more important than an email.

"Reliance on email is even being blamed for diminishing handwriting skills," said Newman. "Electronic communication is here to stay, but there's still a time and place when a beautifully written note or a hand-addressed invitation is appropriate and appreciated."

The survey was conducted in 2010 via an online poll of consumers. For more information about the survey please visit: http://www.envelopes.com/Survey
