Life as Mystery in Guy Marino's Faces Series at Agora Gallery

Guy Marino is a contemporary artist whose art explores and exposes contradictions, and whether they are really part of a larger whole. It's an observation on the duality of reality: the familiar and that which is not readily comprehended.

NEW YORK, NY, April 02, 2011

Chelsea's Agora Gallery will feature an originally Italian artist, Guy Marino, in Altered States of Reality: an Exhibition of Analog and Digital Fine Art Photography. The exhibition is scheduled to run from April 19, 2011 through May 10, 2011 (opening reception: Thursday, April 21, 2011).

About the Artist
Guy Marino creates art that centers around contradictions. Fusing elements of his oil painting with original photography and cutting edge digital enhancement techniques, Marino relies on duality to form a distinct platform for his art. His large-scale archival digital prints mounted on plexiglass feature a wide array of human subjects that come to resemble enchanted islands. Compositionally split at the midline, a diaphanous growth of orbs, scratches, crumbles and crystal formations overlay half of each subject. Fresh and organic meets digital and sci-fi, nature meets culture, art meets life. Inspired by the historical art and architecture of his European homeland - medieval streets, Renaissance frescos, vaulted ceilings and ancient ruins - Marino's work is at once hyper-contemporary and reminiscent of times past.

Born in 1945 in Italy, Guy Marino attended the Scuola Superiore D'Arte Applicata All'Industria in Milan. In the early seventies he moved to New York City to pursue a career as a graphic designer and fine artist.
