Discount Vouchers are the Saviour of High Earners Looking to Off-Set Income Losses

Changes to benefits, tax hikes, and falling interest rates are causing higher tax payers to seek money off from discount voucher sites.

2011-04-02
SURREY, ENGLAND, April 02, 2011 (Press-News.org) Discount vouchers are no longer just for the less well off, according to independent money saving website DiscountVouchers.co.uk, which reported recently that the traffic from ABC1 visitors on its site was at a record high with 61% of the two million-plus who logged on last month from the top income groups.

The report comes around the same time as the latest research from the BBC* found that UK households suffered a loss of 1.6 per cent of real income after tax - a loss of GBP365 compared with figures for 2008. However, high tax payers are losing out worse still and suffered a 3.8% (GBP2230) loss because of lost benefits, lower interest on financial assets and higher taxes.

Simon Terry, director of DiscountVouchers.co.uk, says: "Money saving vouchers are being taken advantage of by smart high earners meaning that they are no longer just popular with low income groups."

"At a time when households are losing out on a proportion of their income across the board, it makes sense to take advantage of the big savings on offer and discount vouchers really can make a huge difference to monthly expenditure. More retailers than ever are offering shoppers a chance to save big money with discount codes, so it makes sence economically to save money where you can."

Some of the biggest names in the UK, such as Tesco, Marks & Spencer, House of Fraser, Pizza Express, Lastminute.com, and Boden are offering discounts ranging from 10% to to 50% off and sales, mean that households can save on groceries, cinema trips, clothing and meals out.

DiscountVouchers.co.uk is the largest independent money saving websites. More than 4,000 live deals are listed on its website every day, along with a range of exclusive offers which are growing every day.

A measurement first: NIST 'noise thermometry' system measures Boltzmann Constant

A measurement first: NIST noise thermometry system measures Boltzmann Constant
2011-04-02
Researchers at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) have for the first time used an apparatus that relies on the "noise" of jiggling electrons to make highly accurate measurements of the Boltzmann constant, an important value for many scientific calculations. The technique is simpler and more compact than other methods for measuring the constant and could advance international efforts to revamp the world's scientific measurement system. The Boltzmann constant* relates energy to temperature for individual particles such as atoms. The accepted value ...
