JMIR Publications and the University of Nevada, Las Vegas announce flat-fee unlimited open access publishing partnership
(Toronto and Las Vegas, March 25, 2026) JMIR Publications, a leading open-access digital health research publisher, and the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) are pleased to announce a new Flat-Fee Unlimited Open Access Publishing Agreement.
Following in the footsteps of similar agreements with progressive institutions worldwide, this partnership replaces individual Article Processing Charges (APCs) with a single Institutional Publishing Fee (IPF). The agreement is designed to reduce the administrative workload for library staff, eliminate financial obstacles for researchers, and ensure research findings are available via immediate open access in one of JMIR Publications’ more than 30 journals.
"Welcoming the University of Nevada, Las Vegas to our growing network of institutional partners marks another milestone for open science in the United States," said Dennis O’Brien, VP Communications and Partnerships at JMIR Publications. "By embracing this flat-fee model, UNLV is championing a scholarly ecosystem where authors can share their digital health discoveries with the world, unhindered by publishing costs or administrative roadblocks. We are excited to support their faculty in maximizing the global impact of their work."
With this partnership, UNLV is actively supporting the fundamental principles of open science and bibliodiversity, while providing its research community with unlimited publishing in JMIR’s high-impact, independent journals.
Under this agreement, corresponding authors currently affiliated with the University of Nevada, Las Vegas will receive unlimited APC waivers. Eligible authors can publish their accepted articles in any of JMIR’s over 30 Gold Open Access titles—including the renowned Journal of Medical Internet Research, JMIR Public Health and Surveillance, and JMIR Mental Health without additional costs to themselves.
