Hotels-London.co.uk - Canaletto and His Rivals in London 'Brings Together Great Venetian Art'

Venetian views are the focus of the London exhibition Canaletto and His Rivals.

2010-09-24
LONDON, ENGLAND, September 24, 2010 (Press-News.org) Some great examples of Venetian artwork have been gathered together at the National Gallery in London for a collection entitled Canaletto and His Rivals.

There are sure to be plenty of art enthusiasts booked in at Hyde Park Hotels with a penchant for some of the beautiful view paintings produced by individuals from the Italian city.

Visitors will have the chance to look through about 50 pieces by an impressive variety of important artists, such as Francesco Guardi, Bernardo Bellotto and Michele Marieschi.

"This exhibition presents the finest assembly of Venetian views since the much-celebrated display in Venice in 1967. It features works by Canaletto and all the major practitioners of the genre," claimed the venue.

Running from October 13th 2010 to January 16th 2011, the collection will no doubt be just as much of a treat for beginners as for experts, since the venue has arranged pieces by Canaletto alongside other works for simple juxtaposition of ideas and styles.

Commenting on the exhibition, Bloomberg suggested it may help visitors understand why there was such a significant trend for 18th century gentlemen to buy paintings of views in Venice.

The display can be found on the Sainsbury Wing of the building, with admission costing GBP12 online or at the box office.

For more information on this event visit the National Gallery website or contact the venue on +44 (0)20 7747 2885
