NEW YORK, NY, June 22, 2012
The Wall Street Journal reports that On The Line has released the nominees for the first Big Daddy Awards. A campaign created to raise awareness about prostate cancer, On The Line has nominated top celebrities across 33 categories. The award show, which airs on the Internet the day after Father's day, is expected to generate a great deal of interest. Dr. Jesse Stoff, who has conducted a large amount of research regarding prostate cancer, applauds the creative efforts of this project. The nominees that have been chosen are all celebrities who represent a variety of categories within the public sphere. From actors to politicians, these nominees touch on enough interests to engage a wide audience. According to the aforementioned article, some of the nominees include: Brad Pitt, Jay-Z, David Beckham, Bono, President Obama, Mario Batali, Clint Eastwood, Cee Lo Green, LeBron James, Donald Trump, Andy Griffith, Bill Cosby, Ray Romano, George Lopez, and Arnold Palmer, among others.
Michael Burg, a cancer survivor and major player in the organization of the event, stated, "Bringing a touch of entertainment and humor together during a time that celebrates dads is really rewarding. Our ultimate goal is to rally the public to help find a cure for a disease that strikes one out of every six men."
In addition to participating by voting for the winners of the Big Daddy Awards, viewers can donate funds to On The Line. The article suggests that a donation in the name of a loved one is a wonderful way to celebrate Father's Day.
"Although prostate cancer is usually a relatively slower growing cancer," commented Jesse Stoff, "nearly one in six men will develop this disease. This translates into 192,280 new cases of prostate cancer in the United States in 2009, of which about 28,170 men will die of the disease. Given the seriousness of this cancer, it is wonderful to see events like the Big Daddy Awards to raise public awareness of the extent of the problem and to raise funds for further research. New, promising immunologically based therapies for prostate cancer have come about because of events like this and I look forward to seeing many more like them."
Dr. Jesse Stoff and On The Line hope that this event calls attention to the importance of prostate cancer awareness.
