OneWeekWorkout Survey Shows People Keen To Use Weight Loss Technologies - But Not All Of Them

A recent survey shows that people are keen to utilise new technologies to assist them in their weight loss, but some far more than others.

CAMBRIDGE, ENGLAND, October 09, 2010

A recent survey has shown that the public are as keen as ever to embrace new technologies as part of their weight loss ventures, but some far more than others. A study undertaken online, targetting people of varying demographics has shown that 62% of respondents genuinely believe that home videogames consoles like the Nintendo Wii, Sony PlayStation Move or XBox Kinetic can help to significantly improve their chances of losing weight, but a massive 72% of respondents spoken to felt that they wouldn't be ready to give up their gym memberships as a replacement just yet. 67% of those people spoken to said that they would be keen to use social networking sites like Twitter and Facebook to assist them in losing weight, while only 44% of people spoken to were willing to download apps for their mobile phones, mainly due to them not believing that they would be much help.

"I think this shows a really interesting trend in the way people feel about using new technologies to help them lose weight", comments Dan Beesden, the man responsible for carrying out the survey. "It confirms what I've believed for a long time, which is that people want and need the social element of losing weight with other like-minded people. I think there's a great opportunity for online communities to develop exciting new products, as there's clearly a demand for it. People love the way that games consoles allow them to interact with the screen and get fit at home, I think if the social element could be improved you would have a real winner."

Dan Beesden, owner of http://oneweekworkout.blogspot.com carried out the survey in an effort to understand how people feel about utilising technologies as part of their weight loss efforts. It shows that people are keen to embrace new products, but most people still believe that going to the gym and working out with friends have an important part to play. The popularity of the major videogames consoles reported by the survey could also be down to impressive and big-budget marketing campaigns, something lacking for mobile phone app downloads.
