Famed Parisian Couturier Jacques Fath Is Revived

PARIS, FRANCE, December 03, 2012 (Press-News.org) A century after the iconic French designer Jacques Fath's birthday, the Parisian design house, The House of Fath, reemerges with an accessories collection that gives air to the same mysterious edge, wild imagination, and playful excess that earned this self-taught designer the moniker "Little Prince of Paris Haute Couture".

Not only was Jacques Fath considered one of the three most dominant influences on postwar haute couture, along with Christian Dior and Pierre Balmain, but he was also one of the first designers to introduce prêt-a-porter to the American fashion market. Fath's RTW graced the forms of fashion forward women such as Marilyn Monroe, Rita Hayworth, Greta Garbo, and Jackie Kennedy.

Fath's skills were not limited to design alone. His eye for true design talent led him to apprentice Hubert de Givenchy, Guy Laroche, and Valentino Garavani, who later went on to further revolutionize women's fashion themselves.

Jacques Fath's noble designs embodied an avant-garde twist and gave women truly wearable glamour, such as the World War II era "wide fluttering skirt". The New York Times reported, "he conceived (it) for the benefit of women forced to ride bicycles during gasoline rationing."

Sadly, a few years after Fath's sudden passing in 1956, The House of Fath closed its doors. However, Jacques Fath's impeccable style and iconic, envelope-pushing designs have left a long lasting footprint on the fashion industry. Fath's work impacted countless contemporary designers, like Jason Wu, who considers Fath as one of his greatest influences.

Now the Jacques Fath brand has re-emerged, with an accessories collection under the creative direction of Laurence Dumenil.
