NEWPORT BEACH, CA, December 05, 2012 (Press-News.org) The holiday season for many people means a fast-paced, stressed-filled time of year. For those that suffer with addiction issues this time is especially challenging with an abundance of liquid holiday cheer, too much food, and too many ways to "over-shop," according to Steve Kosch.
Kosch has introduced new technology to assist people in the form of a new iPhone app called "Sponsor 911," a technology companion to help people keep their commitment to not overdo it this year.
"Sponsor 911 was designed as a tool for people recovering from addictions to alcohol, drug, food, internet, gambling, sex, shopping and tobacco, but the app really appeals to anyone who needs an encouraging word," Kosch notes.
Through choices on the app, the user can hear a message, read a message or use a one-button step to reach a friend, sponsor or recovery hotline.
"Sometimes the right words at the right moment can make all the difference for a person who is struggling with addiction recovery while also meeting the added stress the holidays, relatives and financial strains this time of year can bring," Kosch points out.
The app features more than 50 spoken messages 30 to 60 seconds in length by a male voice, female voice, pastor's voice, and young adult voices, all reminding the user to take it easy and to resist temptations.
If the person is in a place where they do not want to have the sound overheard, the app-user has the ability to simply read the messages on the phone.
To speak to a live person, the user can press a button to automatically dial a pre-set list of friends or a recovery sponsor. The app also provides the ability to connect with numerous recovery hotline numbers.
Sponsor 911 was designed by Steve Kosch of Newport Beach, Calif. after a family member went through treatment and recovery for drugs and alcohol.
While accompanying them to weekly meetings Kosch saw firsthand how important a caring supportive sponsor was to the recovery of the addict.
"I looked for ways to encourage and motivate people with addiction issues and realized that a 24/7 virtual phone sponsor could always be there to dish out encouragement and a pep talk, and hopefully get a person through a difficult moment," Kosch said.
In November, Sponsor 911 was launched on the Apple app store.
The Sponsor 911 recovery tool will help battle the seasons and life's many challenges, currently available for the iPhone with other versions coming soon.
