APPLE VALLEY, MN, December 06, 2012 (Press-News.org) As part of their commitment to community service and good oral health, the Dakota Dental family dentists in Apple Valley, Minnesota, have opened their schedules to take appointments for free educational visits to schools and other children's organizations, including scouting troops and youth groups.
Usually scheduled during Children's Dental Health Month in February, the family dentists, Dr. Bennett Isabella and Dr. Shelley Wakefield, present these age-appropriate educational programs throughout the south metro area of the Twin Cities. Each dental care presentation is customized for audiences between preschool and twelfth grade and may include story time, PowerPoint presentations, hands-on discover centers, discussions about dental careers, and handouts. At each grade level, the Apple Valley dentists emphasize the importance of making good food choices and drinking water.
In addition to school and group visits, the Dakota Dental team participates in the annual, nationwide Give Kids a Smile (GKAS) event every February. Sponsored in part by the American Dental Association, this event provides free education and dental care for underserved children throughout the United States. The program began in 2003 and has since grown to include 40,000 volunteers serving approximately 450,000 children nationwide. During the 2012 event, Dakota Dental dentists and staff volunteered their time to see nearly 40 patients and to perform about $15,000 worth of dental services.
