Narconon Of Georgia Shows Support for Addiction Counselors Association
2013-01-31
NORCROSS, GA, January 31, 2013 (Press-News.org) Narconon of Georgia sent several staff members to the capitol before and during the event to educate lawmakers and other addiction treatment providers on the role they can play in reducing the drug problem in Georgia as well as how the Narconon Program can benefit those with addictions.

The event was sponsored by the Georgia Council on Substance Abuse and was sponsored by Georgia treatment centers and addiction professional associations. The day before the event Narconon Of Georgia displayed information about drug abuse and spoke with lawmakers on the need to increase funding for drug prevention, education and treatment.

Among the information presented to lawmakers was that one in 13 adults in Georgia is under correctional supervision - the highest in the nation. Most of these offenders report having an alcohol or drug addiction. In all over 20 million Americans, including thousands of Georgians, are in recovery from addiction to alcohol or drugs.

The statistics are alarming. Drug addiction is costing our society of $400 billion each year and causes more deaths and illness than any other preventable health condition. Other facts presented to lawmakers included a possible solution. Children in grades 7 through 12 who learn about the dangers of drug use from their parents are up to 50% less likely to develop a substance abuse problem.

In a society where a baby is born suffering from opiate withdrawal every hour, Narconon Of Georgia is leading the way in drug education and prevention programs aimed at lawmakers, parents, law enforcement and children. With over 20 events in Georgia alone during 2012 and many more planned for the coming year Narconon and its staff intends to educate thousands of Georgia residents about the Dangers of Drug Addiction.

Groups such as "Community Watch" and civic service groups are invited to call Narconon Of Georgia to schedule a lecture by one of our drug education specialists. Information is provided on emerging trends in drug abuse. The newest problem drug to hit the streets are so called synthetic drugs which until recently could be legally obtained at many are a tobacco shops.

Narconon of Georgia, located in greater Atlanta, is a private non-profit drug treatment center that is licensed by the State of Georgia. The Narconon Drug Rehabilitation and Education program was founded in 1966 by William Benitez. Narconon of Georgia continues to incorporate rehabilitation and social education methodology based on research developed by American author and humanitarian L. Ron Hubbard. For over a decade, the Georgia center has provided drug rehabilitation and recovery services to individuals that are dealing with alcohol and substance abuse.
