May is National Physical Fitness and Sports Month

BOSTON, MA, May 14, 2013 (Press-News.org) According to the Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans, physical activity can help control weight, improve mental health, and lower the risk for early death, heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and some cancers. In 2013, however, only one in five U.S. adults participated in enough physical activity to gain substantial health benefits.

To achieve substantial health benefits, the guidelines recommend that adults perform at least 150 minutes a week of moderate-intensity aerobic activity, or 75 minutes per week of vigorous-intensity aerobic activity, or an equivalent combination of moderate- and vigorous-intensity aerobic activities.

The fate of media has changed with the popularity of the internet. People now get their news almost exclusively from websites all over the web. Millions upon millions of blogs exist for this purpose and people are getting the chance to express themselves and voice their opinions just by the click of a keyboard. Though the internet is a great source for interesting writing from people of all walks of life, the internet is also riddled with toxic, inaccurate, and poor quality blogs as well.

So, how do you separate a well thought out informational blog from a mistake filled mess? With the Pollis, a brand new social media platform that incorporates a user based rating system that divides the best content from the worst. Created by University of Massachusetts Amherst alumnus Jacob Weindling and Justin Fox, the two came up with the idea after Weindling was tired of reading through questionable blogs and media on Twitter and Facebook. The two best friends decided to go all in on this idea with Jacob bringing his vision to light and Justin working on the tech side of things. The social media duo dropped their plans and decided to return to the state where they met so that they can take a chance on a game changing idea.

"We want to be the first place that people go to when people want to find out about their various interests explains Weindling.

"Whether it's cars or video games, or whatever, we want Pollis to be the top spot where people get their news from the internet."

The interface is easy to use and has been gaining more and more subscribers since launching in February. The site has been proclaimed Mark Zuckerburgesque as it features an idea that will change how media is presented for the future. Users will get to be proactive in their search for news and will rate what they read from a 1-5 star scale. The five star blogs will then be featured at the top of the lists for users while the lower rated ones will disappear off the search screen.

Weindling sheds light on why this service will be revolutionary for the internet:

"We're trying to fill the void created by the loss of Google reader (a glorified RSS Feed). The marketplace was left flawed and without its best bad option to find content, Pollis can fill that gap in the marketplace since it allows you to share, customize, and discover content in a setting that's familiar and easy."

"Bloggers from all over the blogosphere are jumping onboard the Pollis train as it is making their names stand out among the internet.

No longer will internet writers be looked down upon by members of the media as Pollis will bring the talent pool to the forefront of journalism and blogging. They have even gotten successful tech blogger Justin Germino as one of their supporters citing Pollis as the next big thing in news.

Currently, Justin Fox and Jacob Weindling are looking for investors for this big idea but have so far funded the project themselves. They are looking for people who share in their vision for a new form of media and have the credentials to make those investors very happy.
