Gurnee: Headaches, Migraines and TMJ Disorders: Dentist Lectures in Argentina on Developmental Pathways of TMD and Sleep Disorders; ADD, ADHD & Behavioral Problems Are Effects Of These Pathways

Treatment of migraines, chronic daily headaches, sleep apnea, fibromyalgia is more successful when you understand the developmental pathways that predispose patients to problems. Neuromuscular Dentistry and Dental Sleep Medicine improve your life!

2014-04-10
GURNEE, IL, April 10, 2014 (Press-News.org) TMJ Disorders and Sleep apnea have common developmental pathways. These disorders are also associated with headaches, migraines, ADD, ADHD, Behavioral Disorders as well as postural problems. Gurnee Dentist, Dr Ira L Shapira was a featured speaker at the Second International College of CranioMandibular Orthopedics in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Dr Shapira is president of Delany Dental Care in Gurnee and is opening a new office in Highland Park, Il in May 2014. Understanding the developmental processes is the key to successful treatment of headaches, migraines, TMJ disorders, TMD, Fibromyalgia, Sleep Disorders, Neck Pain, Cervical and postural dysfunction.

It is well known that the cause and treatment of Headaches and Migraines almost always involves the Trigeminal Nerves and the oral and dental apparatus. TMJ disorders are called The Great Imposter (http://www.sleepandhealth.com/story/suffer-no-more-dealing-great-imposto...) because they frequently get missed in diagnosis by the medical community when dealing with chronic pain. Patients frequently go thru years of unnecessary pain and suffering due to the missed diagnosis or lack of understanding of the neuromuscular system. It is important to understand that all TMD is not associated with joint pain, noises or locking!

Many patients have primarily muscle problems due to repetitive strain injuries. These injuries can be caused by bites that are not physiologic, bad habits or trauma. Neuromuscular Dentistry (http://www.sleepandhealth.com/neuromuscular-dentistry) is extremely effective in reducing and eliminating headaches and migraines without excessive use of medication. Neuromuscular Dentistry works by eliminating noxious input into the Trigeminal Nervous System. What is not widely understood is that it is possible to alter these developmental Pathways and to grow healthier children and eliminate or decrease the incidence of ADD and ADHD as well as other behavioral disorders.

The same pathways in development create patients with chronic sinus problems, middle ear infections and nasal pharyngeal airway restrictions and children effect their quality of life their entire life. A new therapy, the DNA Appliance can actually correct many of hess developmental problems in children and adults.

Dr Shapira recently spoke to Chiropracters at the SOTO meeting in Atlanta. The same developmental pathways responsible for sleep apnea and TMJ disorders also predispose patients to Chiropractic and spinal issues. Airway is a common key and treatment requirs careful attention to the Stomaognathic system by a trained Neuromuscular Dentist. The connections between posture and pain and TMJ disorders are based on the work of Sherrington who won the Nobel Prize in Medicine.

Atlas Orthoganol Chiropracters and NUCCA Chiropracters are acutely aware of close relationship of physiologic bite position with atlas-axis stability.

Dr Shapira is well known in the Sleep Community and is a pioneer in the field of Dental Sleep Medicine. He did research into the jaw position of sleep apnea patients in the 1980's as a visiting Asst Professor at Rush Medical School Sleep Disorder Center. His early research using a Myotronics Kinesiograph showed that male sleep apnea patients had similar jaw positions as female TMJ patients. Dr Shapira has authored two recent editorials in Cranio Journal, The Journal of CranioMandibular and Sleep Disorders. The most recent is; TMJ Alias, The Great Imposter, Has a Co-Conspirator: Poor Sleep
(http://cranio.com/volume31/issue1/tmj-alias-great-imposter-has-co-conspi...)

An earlier editorial was; The National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute Considers the Cardiac and Sleep Consequences of Temporomandibular Disorders (http://www.maneyonline.com/doi/pdfplus/10.1179/crn.2007.012)

Dr Shapira treats patients with TMJ disorders and sleep disorders in his Gurnee office. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Dental Sleep Medicine and a Diplomate of the American Academy of Pain Management. Many patients with severe headaches and migraines can find relief from pain with neuromuscular of masticatory disorders.
