StrategiesThe First Ethnic Food Importer in Montreal, Shah Trading Company, Speaks on Improving the Family Business

In a report in Food and Drink Digital, Kamal Shah, Vice President of Shah Trading Company speaks on the family owned and operated business and its mark in the food industry in Canada.

2011-01-26
SAN DIEGO, CA, January 26, 2011 (Press-News.org) In a report in Food and Drink Digital, Kamal Shah, Vice President of Shah Trading Company speaks on the family owned and operated business and its mark in the food industry in Canada.

Since 1974, Shah Trading Company has grown from a team of two brothers purchasing, distributing and importing spices, dried fruits and grains to becoming one of North America's leading and oldest ethnic food distributors, as well as Canada's largest rice packager that handles more than 250 tons of rice per day. The Shah family has an East Indian origin and Praful Shah moved to Canada in the 1970s to start the importing and distribution company and the Shah Trading Company became the first ethnic food importer in Montreal.

"My father's East Indian origin allowed him and his brother to start importing foods that they knew and once they started the business and for the feel of it, it was easy for them to sell to Indian customers before reaching out to the rest of the consumers in the area and getting out of the specific Indian industry," Kamal Shah says, Vice President of Shah Trading Company.
