SAN DIEGO, CA, January 26, 2011 (Press-News.org) In an interview with Construction Digital, Brad Jackson of the TrackStar Alliance and Terry Pyne of Queensland Rail discuss safety, innovative technology and the challenges faced during the Corinda to Darra Rail Upgrade project, designed to increase and improve service in Queensland, Australia.
"The primary objective of the project is the continuing extension of the rail network into the western suburbs of Brisbane," says Brad Jackson, Project Director for the TrackStar Alliance in the interview. "It's a long-term plan to ultimately have the rail connected up to Redbank and this is the first stage of that."
The WESTLOCK bi-directional signalling replaced the sixty-year-old relay signalling system, improving the reliability of the rail. The system has been used on a small scale in Sydney; however, this is the first time it's been used on a significant scale in Australia. According to Pyne, the system is a processor-based interlocking system. After a couple of staged commissions over the duration of the project, it underwent and passed a final commission. "It's fault free," says Pyne. "We know how to use it now and what to expect. It's a very good reliable system." Read the full article
