Business as usual for First Atlantic Commerce as Hurricane Igor moves across Bermuda

No disruption to First Atlantic Commerce's transaction processing as Hurricane Igor whips through the island

2010-09-24
HAMILTON, BERMUDA, September 24, 2010 (Press-News.org) First Atlantic Commerce (FAC), a Bermuda-based, international, online payment gateway, continued to provide payment processing to its merchants, with no disruption to service, while Igor, a Category One hurricane whipped through the island.

Igor moved toward Bermuda as a Category Two hurricane, but weakened overnight and was downgraded to a Cat 1 hours before it was set to hit the island. The storm had maximum sustained winds of 85 mph and brought torrential rain and driving winds to the island.

Approximately 80 percent of the island was without power after Igor battered the island on Sunday night. Electricity for most has now been restored with only 4,200 customers without power as of Tuesday morning. Roads have been cleared of debris and the island is operating as normal.

FAC's payment gateway platform is hosted at Cable and Wireless, which is a world class hurricane proof facility and maintains independent power supply. As anticipated, there was no impact to FAC's payment systems during the storm, and FAC continued to offer payment processing services to internet based customers around the globe.

"As in the past with other hurricanes, FAC was able to continue processing without interruption, and our 24 x 7 Emergency Technical Support remained open to our production merchants during the storm," said Ronnie Viera, FAC's SVP of IT and Operations. "Our record is a testament to the capabilities and efficiencies of FAC's team, our telecommunications infrastructure and processing network."

The Atlantic Hurricane Season runs from June 1st to November 30th.
