Offshore Group Podcast Examines Mexico Manufacturing Dos and Don'ts

TUCSON, AZ, July 11, 2012 (Press-News.org) Rob Phillips, vice president of global operations for the Santa Fe Springs, California-based, Phillips Industries recently recorded a podcast with The Offshore Group. The session addressed the "Dos" and "Don'ts" related to starting-up and maintaining manufacturing operations in Saltillo, Coahuila, Mexico. In addition to examining the cultural issues related to achieving manufacturing success in Mexico, Phillips and Filiberto Coello, the Saltillo facility plant manufacturer, discuss details related to the city's business environment, as well as access to a trained and attractively priced workforce.

According to Phillips, "Saltillo is a sweetheart factory for us. We have a fantastic management team there. We have lower labor rates there than what you have in the U.S., especially in California. With the management team that we have in place, and the level of expertise in all functional aspects of the operation, we found that we could be very successful in a very short period of time."

Phillips Industries is a manufacturer, as well as a distributor, of a wide variety of trucking products, and serves both OEMs and the aftermarket. The company is a vendor to virtually every major tractor and trailer manufacturer in the United States.

The Offshore Group is the largest provider of outsourced business support, "shelter" services in Mexico. Currently 61 businesses operate at The Offshore Group's three Mexico manufacturing industrial parks in the State of Sonora, the city of Saltillo, Coahuila, and at the Group's Vangtel subsidiary in Hermosillo, Sonora. Research analysing 235 types of rice from around the world has found its glycemic index (GI) varies from one type of rice to another with most varieties scoring a low to medium GI.
