State Representative Joe Miklosi And State Senator Chris Romer Work To Bring Jobs To Denver

Colorado Legislators Host Job Fair, Drive Job Creation in Districts 9 and 32

2010-10-02
DENVER, CO, October 02, 2010 (Press-News.org) State Representative Joe Miklosi and State Senator Chris Romer sponsored a free job fair on Monday, September 20th to drive job growth in their districts and help local residents find employment.

More than 20 companies from a diverse group of sectors, including solar, health care, nursing, fashion, financial services, labor, and military were present. Over 300 job seekers RSVP-ed in advance of the event and 500 were expected to attend the job fair that was hosted at Thomas Jefferson High School.

"I'm one of the 8.3% of the Denver metro area that's unemployed and I appreciate the efforts of these gentlemen to help me find work," said Ray Fitzgerald. "Too often it seems like legislators are too busy saying what they're going to do about the economy but aren't actually doing anything. It's reassuring to meet a couple of legislators who are truly making a difference."

Representative Miklosi hosted a similar job fair earlier this year in June, which more than 350 job seekers and a dozen companies attended. According to the initial follow-up survey, nearly 40 people found employment at the event. Successful job placements from September's job fair are expected to be double that number.

"I'm encouraged by the increase in participation from businesses at this event," said Representative Miklosi, who hosted a similar job fair in June.

State Representative Joe Miklosi recently helped pass the New Energy Job Creation Act as another powerful step in his dedication to job growth. State Legislator Chris Romer, also committed to job creation in Denver, has been known to walk door-to-door to speak with business owners to generate ideas for policies on job creation.

"Job creation is vital to getting our economy back on track," says Senator Romer. "While these job fairs are just a part of the broader plan to jumpstart the economy, it's encouraging to see everyone coming together for a common cause."

DES provided affordable online courses and training for students and adults to learn the latest computer programming languages. The courses were designed to help programmers improve their skills and get better jobs.
