North Carolina's Annual Fine Designer Crafts Show To Award Scholarship To High School Student

2012-08-08
RALEIGH, NC, August 08, 2012 (Press-News.org) The Carolina Designer Craftsmen Guild (http://www.carolinadesignercraftsmen.com/) has announced that it will sponsor a high school booth at the 43rd Annual Fine Designer Crafts Show, to be held at the N.C. State Fairgrounds Friday, November 23 through Sunday, November 25. All North Carolina high school students are invited to apply to exhibit their work. The student whose work best represents a maturity in design and craftsmanship will be awarded a $500 scholarship. The "Very Best in High School Designer" exhibit is designed to promote young and talented student artists throughout the state.

Students who create original and handmade clay, fiber, glass, jewelry, metal, wood, furniture, photography, paper and mixed craft media are eligible to submit one work for consideration by the Guild's standards committee. To apply, students are asked to send digital images of their work by email to Deborah Harris at dharris118@nc.rr.com by the deadline on October 31, 2012. Submitted materials will be reviewed by the guild's standards committee and selected work will be displayed in a booth dedicated solely to student crafts.

The Carolina Designer Craftsmen Guild has sponsored a student booth since 2009. The scholarship award has grown from $100 the first year of the high school exhibit to $500 in 2010 through the generosity of exhibiting members.
