Regal Cigs Responds to Surprising New E-Cigs Study

Despite the research that shows that electronic cigarettes can curb smoking addiction, some health experts are pushing the FDA to ban the devices. Regal Cigs, e-cigs supplier, weighs in on this controversy.

2012-08-13
NEW YORK, NY, August 13, 2012 (Press-News.org) As with many new products, skepticism and criticism are usually expected to follow. However, in the case of electronic cigarettes, some health advocates may be pushing critique further to have the FDA ban the device. A recent article from The Wall Street Journal highlights the rising tension between those who support e-cigs and those who feel that they are dangerous. Although there has yet to be any documented proof supporting negative side effects of electronic cigarette use, experts say that "vaping" could carry consequences regarding user health. Regal Cigs, noted manufacturer of an electronic cigarette product line, observes that the focus on the FDA ban is taking away from the many benefits that e-cigs can offer.

According to the article, one major advantage to e-cig use is that it can be utilized as a smoking cessation tool. Despite research that shows existing smokers can turn to electronic cigarettes as a way to replace or cut down on their tobacco habits, many manufacturers are not marketing their products in that way. In a recent press statement Regal Cigs comments, "There are many reasons people may choose to try vapors; consumers may appreciate that they can use it indoors, that it offers a variety of flavors or that is simply healthier than cigarettes." Regardless of a consumer's motivation, Chad Maynard, spokesperson for ElectronicCigarette.net tells Wall Street Journal, "Bottom line is that e-cigs are growing in popularity, though, no question about that."

The article discusses a recent study published in The American Journal of Health which showed that "smokers were far more aware of electronic cigarettes, and very likely to try them" as opposed to non-smokers. Despite these observations, public health officials are still afraid that the devices may attract younger demographics, as well as non-smokers. For those reasons, authorities are asking the FDA to move forward with the ban. One Regal Cigs representative comments, "Consumers should always exercise caution when trying a new product, but electronic cigarettes are so innovative, that few health experts have taken the time to fully assess if they can actually become a danger. However, the current data available regarding e-cigs as a smoking cessation tool suggests that if the FDA were to place a ban on the product, many users may turn back to tobacco, which as many know, is more harmful to one's health."
