Cosmetic Surgeon in New Jersey Observes National Breast Cancer Awareness Month
2010-10-10
CHERRY HILL, NJ, October 10, 2010 (Press-News.org) This October marks 25 years since the first National Breast Cancer Awareness Month (NBCAM) was declared in 1985. Dr. Evan Sorokin, a cosmetic surgeon in New Jersey, and the staff at Delaware Valley Plastic Surgery (www.delawarevalleybreasts.com) are celebrating this anniversary in a special way - by wearing pink exam gloves. A portion of the sales of the gloves will be donated to the National Breast Cancer Foundation.

"These pink gloves that our caregivers are wearing are a visible reminder that early detection and prevention is essential," explains Dr. Sorokin. "Mammography remains the single most effective method of detecting breast cancer in an early, treatable stage. If all women received regular screenings and mammograms after turning 40, the mortality rate would fall by another 20 to 30 percent."

Dr. Sorokin strongly believes that women should have early and regular screenings. As a physician who focuses his practice on breast surgery, this is an important tool. In addition to raising breast cancer awareness, these pink gloves are helping provide free mammograms to women who cannot afford them. MEDLINE, the manufacturer, contributes $1 for every case of Generation Pink gloves purchased to the National Breast Cancer Foundation. The National Breast Cancer Foundation is committed to spreading knowledge and fostering hope in the fight against breast cancer.

"I am proud to be a part of such a wonderful cause," states Dr. Sorokin. "Because such a large portion of my practice is committed to breast enhancement in New Jersey, I feel personally committed to the fight against breast cancer. Additionally, I hope that more people become educated on this type of cancer and understand the importance of early detection."

Breast cancer is one of the most common types of cancer among women, and it is estimated to have taken the lives of over 40,000 women from 2009 to 2010, as reported by the American Cancer Society. Breast cancer has many risk factors, including age, genetics, obesity and family history. Women who exercise regularly, maintain healthy diets and have regular visits with their doctors may be less likely to get breast cancer.

Dr. Sorokin adds, "Some of my patients who have had breast augmentation in New Jersey are concerned that their implants will impair mammograms. It is important for every woman with breast implants get routine mammograms, and find a mammogram provider with experience screening women who have breast implants. By taking precautions and having regular evaluations, we can help decrease the mortality rate of breast cancer."

Dr. Evan Sorokin (www.delawarevalleybreasts.com) is a board-certified plastic surgeon specializing in a full selection of cosmetic surgery procedures such as short-recovery breast augmentation for New Jersey women. Dr. Sorokin earned his MD from Hahnemann Medical College in Philadelphia before training extensively in both general and plastic surgery at the University of Texas - Southwestern. He has earned recognition from both professional and lay organizations for his contributions to cosmetic surgery in New Jersey. Dr. Sorokin is board-certified by the America Board of Plastic Surgery, the only plastic and cosmetic surgery board recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialties.
